I got my stimulus direct deposit this morning. It's not much since they start deducting if you're over a certain household threshhold, but they seem to be giving a $600 child credit in full no matter your income which I didn't realize, so I did better than I expected to. I guess that's a nice New Year's Day surprise, to get a fraction of my taxpayer dollars back. This one also came a hell of a lot quicker than the last one.  Thank you so much to my benevolent gubment.

Because the $600 is a political weapon and your tax refund is not would be my guess.

Why are they sending checks through the mail - especially since the postal service is backed up?

The last time, the stimulus checks were in the form of a debit card (if they were not direct deposited) and we were told to hold onto the debit card in case it was needed for future funds. It was explained that the debit card would be a good solution so that additional checks would not need to be sent out. Instead, the money could be added to the debit card.

I didn't realize this either.  The calculators I saw a couple of weeks ago didn't show this.  We didn't get anything the first time, and it didn't look like we qualify this time either, although I have to admit I didn't read all 5,000 pages of the bill either.  Nothing in my bank account as of 3pm.

No one I’ve spoken to has any idea how they arrived at the number for them, which is the way they want it. But everyone seems to be getting random numbers, and they’re not round numbers either.

I think they dropped the amount $5 for every $100 over the threshold until it phased out, but they gave to the full 600 per child to anyone under the phase out limit.

I think that I might have thrown my stimulus check out in the mail. A couple weeks ago, I got mail that looked like a scam to me. I opened it and read it but it didn't seem legit to me - especially since it didn't come from the IRS. Since I was expecting any additional stimulus funds to be added to the debit card they sent out for the first stimulus check, I wasn't expecting to receive a check this time - especially from a non-IRS source.
I am going to wait a couple more weeks and thoroughly check my mail. If I don't get the stimulus check by the end of February, I will have to pursue getting it reissued.

Biden’s been in office for less than a week and already the welfare queens are making up wild stories to double dip. This never happened when Trump was president.

Biden's mental faculties seem to be slipping. I think I will be able to sneak this past him.

Do the individual stimulus checks actually provide enough help to anybody?

We have been in this pandemic for about 10 months now and the government has distributed less than $5,000 per person (in many cases, much less than $5,000) in stimulus money during that time. In my area, that amount of money won't even cover 3 months of rent, much less if you include other expenses such as utilities, groceries, etc.  I know that other forms of relief such as unemployment, food banks, etc are also supposed to be available but there is no way it is enough if you are a person who lost a job during this time.

The politicians - especially the Dems but both parties are probably guilty - make it sound like the stimulus checks are an absolute necessity but are they really providing that much help to the average guy? To me, it is just a charade to put some big money into the relief bill that will go to their corporate donors and other rich folk who are getting richer.
