Was in Lake Placid last week. They have a museum attached to the rink and you can visit it. A high school team was practicing on the ice when we were there. The ski jump is still in operation too. Some tremendous sports history that you can get up close and personal with.

Papa Voo![]()

One of the greatest TV events that I ever watched. I can still remember practically everything I did that day.

A seminal moment in my youth. For some reason, I have more vivid memories of listening to discussion of the result -- in the car coming home from my Saturday morning bowling league -- than actually watching the game. I was in third grade and a bit naive, I just assumed that the good guys would come out on top no matter what. When the U.S. beat the Czechs it only strengthened that belief. I went to the rink a few years ago and it really does fill you with awe to stand next to the dasher boards and think about what happened on that very spot. There used to be a guy at my place of work, retired now, who was at the game. He and a couple friends had put in for tickets prior to the Olympics and got a pack of three games. Of course all he knew at that time was that he had tickets to a medal round game, teams to be determined, so he got amazingly lucky. He and the crew he went with had to stay in Montreal; that was the closest hotel room they could find.

I would imagine, over the decades, a lot of people that didn't actually see the tape delay of the game think they did, the game becoming so iconic over the years.Kind of like how some concerts would have had to have had 100000 people in a 10,000 seat venue for everyone that claimed to have been there actually being there.

There is a clip when the studio guys throw it to the hockey guys to hype the USA vs USSR game coming up next (on tape delay) and all the US fans are going wild & celebrating the win in the background. In hindsight, it's obvious, but at the time I'm sure no one noticed.

It was a tape delay but I just looked it up and it took place 5 p.m. ET and was shown 8 p.m. ET. They did a good job of not leaking the result or the details. I think the Finland game for the gold was leaked.
