In the 4-5 times I have chatted with Ata she has always been open and welcoming, and proud to cite her son's work ethic as reason for his success. I can see where Dwayne would credit hers as well. Stacey Leilua's portrayal fits what I have experienced.

This show is so dull. There's some novelty value for wrestling fans, but the entertainment value is 3/10. And for a comedy, it's almost 100% mirth-free.

Unfortunately the more I watch, the more I agree. I saw the first episode and thought it was average. It got worse really fast.

This is supposed to be a time period ten years from now, right? At the very least there ought to be some attempt to incorporate an as-yet undeveloped technology. In the 2030s maybe the advancement, or devolving condition, is that everyone has some degree of scandal to live down and telling Rock's story now opens that door and is controlling the narrative at the same time,

Dwayne has teased that the fanny pack is coming. But that's old tech.

I agree that the premise of it being the future should have meant something radically different for the interview format, and showing the world in a more positive way.

The 2030 scenes don’t belong on public access much like NBC. I feel like the executives insisted on The Rock being shown on screen, which is why they’re doing this. But he should only be narrating. It still wouldn’t be a fantastic show, but by taking out the cringe-worthy interview scenes they’d have a better shot at retaining an audience.

Last night's show was the worst yet. I don't even think a joke was attempted. Most of the "comedy" is "you had to be there" humor aimed directly at The Rock and his 6 closest friends.  It's so self-masturbatory I feel like I'm watching an informercial for The Rock now. I always liked the guy and now this show is making me think he's a huge ass.

It does seem kind of obvious at this point that no one will tell him "no" to an idea. He's the Vince McMahon of Hollywood now.

We're supposed to get to talk to Brian Gerwitz about the show, so that'll be interesting.

Dave Hillhouse's excellent work covering NBC's Young Rock continues at SlamWrestling.net with an interview with one of its executive producers, Brian Gerwitz -- who wrestling fans will remember as a WWE writer for many years during The Attitude Era and beyond.
