I believe it gets looked at in 2022 with some minor leagues using it now.

I like the idea. It moves the game along and might result in more offense if pitchers/catchers have communication issues or pitchers are unable to shake off the results from previous plays. The "tick...tick...tick" of the clock in the pitcher's head might cause some mistakes and bad pitches if it is enough to break the pitcher's concentration.

Something needs done for both the purposely-delaying pitchers and the stalling batters.

The biggest change from the game between 40 or 50 years ago and now. The pace 9f play. Watch a classic game on MLB network. Batters stay in the box. Pitchers get the ball and throw. Games could easily be under 2.5 hours if players were reconditioned to up their pace.

So - NFL games are 3+ hours but no 'outcry' to shorten the game Is it that important?

We have sort of been conditioned to accept a 3 hour game. Plus, the NFL has a clock (15 mins per quarter) that sets the pace of the game. In contrast, MLB has no time constraints and the players seem to set the pace of the game.

It used to move quickly, now there are so many flags and commercials that it’s becoming every bit the slog that MLB is. And a byproduct of there no longer being a running game means the clock stops almost constantly because every play is a long pass where the receiver runs out of bounds or an incomplete pass. It’s the MLB equivalent of every at-bat ending in a strikeout or walk.

I think the pitch clock should be used as a guide to the umps. Let’s say a pitcher goes over the clock, his catcher gets told by the plate ump. Second time, the ump goes in front of the plate and waves a signal to the pitcher. Third time automatic ball. But if they do this, they also need to make the batter stay in the box and no timeouts to step out. You can set the pace of play just by keeping hitters in the box and not letting them call timeout. Also, while I hate adding rules to baseball...I feel that if they are going to make each pitcher pitch to a certain amount of hitters to avoid all of the pitching changes, they need to eliminate the shift where all of the infielders end up on the first base side and the 2B plays short RF. Play baseball like it’s always been played. The flip side of this, coaches should still teach batters how to hit. Stop teaching launch angle and go back to teaching them to hit to all fields. If David Ortiz could hit to Left, he would’ve been untouchable.

Not sure about other games played so far this season but the Angels-White Sox game on ESPN tonight went 4 hours (8:30 - 12:30). Thank goodness the Angels hit a walk-off homer to win it in the bottom of the 9th or the game could have went extra innings and taken even longer.
