NFL owners will vote Tuesday to add a 17th game to the regular-season schedule. If the proposal passes as expected, the Raiders could be in line to play an extra home game at Allegiant Stadium this season.

The preseason would be cut from four games to three, with an extra week tacked on to the schedule, according to a person with knowledge of the proposal. The season would start as normal the first week after Labor Day. Everything else — the playoffs and Super Bowl — would be pushed back by one week.

Although nothing is official, the plan is for the extra home games to be divided by conference each year. One year all AFC teams will get an additional game, the next the NFC.

I can just hear the laughter in the room when they say "all those opposed?".

I'm going off of memory but I *think* the NFL was stopping testing for marijuana in exchange for things that benefit ownership and this was or may have been one of those things

Who, besides the owners, actually wants this?

If you’re a fantasy football player (and there are millions), the extra game doesn’t hurt your feelings.

Heard they’re going to make the extra game an international game after a Few years of this for every team. Not sure of the logistics exactly, just heard a snippet about it earlier.

Any talk of increased roster size, specifically for game days?
What is it 48 now or something?

Maybe an increase to Taxi Squad size. Or  maybe a sort of "active" taxi squad of players who can only play if there is an injury that takes a player out of a game.

Say a linebacker gets carted off the field. The backup comes in of course but then the teams have 3 to 5 guys dressed one of whom gets to be deemed active for the remainder of the game sort of thing. More games will mean more injuries.

Is there any talk of the 'Super Wild Card Weekend' they did last year?

7 teams from each conference got in. #1 seed only with a bye. 3 wildcard games per conference.

That’ll happen full time eventually, but I’m guessing it has to be collectively bargained in some way, no?
