"One Live Kiss"

It kicks fucking ass...it's the Chicago show.  If you didnt see one of these shows live the DVD covers well what we all saw...not a helluva lot of overproduction on it or anything.

I will say though that the SF show I saw was even better.

The band he's got behind him is better than Kiss is these days.  Guitarist is better, Drummer's better (though Eric Singer is good). A monkey is a better bassist than Gene - plus without Gene, the set list isn't bogged down with worthless shit like Calling Dr. Love.

This should come as a surprise to NOBODY.

to be fair to Gene though, he used to be a KICKASS bass player..he wrote some great bass lines in the early kiss stuff and I give major props to him for the early stuff, but about the mid-80's or so, he just got lazy and now just sticks with a few notes..

Gene was okay for a time in the mid 70's, largely because he was so raw he just did anything.

By the late 70's he was using studio musicians for most of his stuff, and in the late 80's thru the 90's Bruce Kulick played everything.  Worth noting he also played bass on Paul's Live to Win album.

I remember a lot of talk when Kiss' Revenge album came out - "wow, Gene's really developed into a good bassist."  Didn't play a note of it.

I think he'd make a great Lex Luthor though in whatever Superman movie comes out next.

The ones specifically that come to mind for me are Got to Choose and Detroit Rock City.

It didn't, to me.  I'm not a Tommy Thayer fan at all, and Gene at one time was an awesome showman but that's so far in the past he's not even worth talking about anymore.

Plus, honestly, aside from the very rare gem, Gene's music is up there with Ringo Starr for some of the most useless utter shit ever foisted onto mankind's ear.

I dunno that that's real, I think it may be a bald wig.  Why he'd be wearing it I dunno.  Gene's been wearing extensions or a wig onstage for at least 20 years now though.

Big J-

On a music DVD related note....the new Halford Rock in Rio DVD set is out. Absolute perfect performance from 2000 or 2001. I highly recommend. Comes with a remastered version of Ressurection with some intense bonus tracks.

Ryan, you're a big Priest fan.  Does the 6/84 MSG show exist in any format whatsoever?  I'd kill to get it.

I really don't know. I have a few priest boots from the Defenders tour, but not the MSG show.

Had you ever heard of the show that they caused a mini-riot by telling the spectators to rip up their seats?  That's the show I am talking about, and we were there.

Yep, heard of it. Sorry to veer off topic. Paul Stanley DVD: better than Kiss I'm sure.

I was there too. Awesome destruction of the place. However it didn't hold a candle to the riot that broke out at the Ted Nugent-AC/DC show in 1979 at MSG. People ripped the chairs up from the orchestra level and piled them up almost 25 feet. Then some fine, nimble minded young men soaked it with lighter fluid and set it ablaze. Outside the show, fun loving pop music fans knocked over virtually every hot dog cart on 7th Avenue from 34th to 32nd Street spilling their organic and tasty snacks up and down Fashion Avenue.

So the post is not a complete hi-jack, is there a setlist for Paul's DVD?
