Because Cap was killed and now The Punisher is the new Cap.  And he has a gun.

So did The Punisher comics just become Captain America comics all of a sudden?

I dunno how they're doing it, it hasn't really happened yet, but that's what's happening.

I'm completely out of the comics loop.  It doesn't seem like anyone even buys comics anymore.  From what I've gathered by evaluating Marvel's stock, their only real value are the licenses and trademarks they own to make these blockbuster movies.  That's what's keeping them in business.  And up until a few years ago, they hadn't figured out how to capitalize on Hollywood so they got their act together just in time.  If it wasn't for that, they might be out of business by now.  The actual production of comics seems to be of secondary concern to them now and with the astronomical cost of paper they have to charge about $100 an issue just to turn a slight profit. It seems like a lot of books have gone under or been consolidated because once the characters are created, it's cheaper to profit off of the nostalgis and history that's already been established rather than create new adventures.

Where did you hear that? He had the Cap like costume for a couple of issues of War Journal while he fought Hate Monger but has since "moved on"and gave Caps mask to Winter Soldier, Caps partner who now is the one running around "pretending" to be Captain America. I think it's going to end up being Bucky who becomes the new Captain America after all this "who's the new Cap going to be?" crap takes place myself.

CB has it right. Frank Castle (The Punisher) is not Captain America. He wore a similar looking costume for a few issues. The current storyline is that Cap's request was for Bucky (Winter Solder) to assume the mantle of Captian America. The catch is (If I remember correctly) is that Bucky is fuckin' crazy and in no shape to follow in the iconic footsteps of Cap. Cap has laid it at the feet of Tony Stark (Iron Man) to whip Bucky into shape.

I stand corrected.  Big Pun was the last word I heard.

The main thing that's driven my "new" comics buying way down is that every book is $3 now, which is way too fucking high.

I'd rather pay 50c for an old book out of the bargain bin.  Of course the shit I read (Cap, Avengers) tends to fill the bargain bins so that makes my choice easier.

Well with Wolverine and Spidey being in the Avengers now, Avengers is generally near the top of the sales charts nowadays.

The only book I read is Ultimate Spider Man. I just pick up the bound volumes off of half.com.

When I got into reading them again about a year and half ago I said I was going to only read a couple of titles: Punisher, Conan and Walking Dead.
Well that's gone out the window as I'm now also reading Punsher War Journal, Hulk, Fables, Jack Of Fables, Scalped and various other TPB's I waste my money on everytime I'm in the comic shop.

All in all there's a lot of good titles out there these days on Vertigo and some of the lesser known comic companies.

I have discovered that my public library has a pretty large collection of current TPBs so I keep current on all the Ultimate titles, and most of the other mainstream stuff. The only thing I still purchase are the Marvel Essential Collections. I have been lucky enough to find 3 so far at Half-Price Books for around $7.00 or $8.00. I also happened along a "3 for a $1.00" comics sale at a HPB recently. I dropped about $30.00 on a variety of stuff.

If you are not familiar with the Marvel Essential Collections, they are black and white reprints of original comics. The usually contain around 18-20 issues of the title. The retail price is $16.99. I think it is a very nice deal. So far I have Fantastic Four Volume 1, which contains FF 1-20, Amazing Spider-Man Volume 1 (ASM 1-20), and X-Men Volume 4. I believe that Santa may bring me the 1st volumes of Punisher and Daredevil.

DC has a similar line.

Precisely why I don't read it.  Gimme a 15-20 year old issue with Vision and Wonder Man and shit.
