This is a short and fair piece, not necessarily a knock at wrestling as a realistic view of Rourke's current career choices and how this probably isn't the best one.

Rourke does life his own way.  I don't think he cares what anyone thinks of his decisions.  He does not even seem to care about the implications of his actions.  He will not change.

The article was absolute horseshit. Why would Rourke want to pass on a seven figure paycheck that would have virtually no effect on his acting career. It's all done in fun and Rourke can get another great payday. The guy is 56 years old so who knows how many more he's going to get. Have real estate speculators stopped dealing with Donald Trump because he was in Mania?

Brilliant

So we're supposed to forgive and forget the fact he funded terrorists, but critiseze him for being involved in wrestling

Has an IRA tattoo and admitted to sending his fee for a couple of movies to them

From Yahoo Movies profile -
"1989 Provoked controversy when he disclosed that he had donated part of his fee for playing St Francis of Assisi in Francesco to the IRA "

Fom Skymovies profile -

He went on to court controversy by saying he donated part of his salary from 1989's Francesco (in which he portrayed St. Francis of Assisi) to the IRA. He had played a repentant IRA hitman two years previously in A Prayer for the Dying.

http://www.timeout.com/film/features/show-feature/6557/mickey-rourke-a-life-in-film.html

"Rourke’s later claims that he gave part of his fee for ‘Francesco’ (1989) to the Provisional IRA and a fearsome reputation made him a risky proposition in the eyes of increasingly wary studios. "

I don't think so. Mickey was good friends with Wesley Snipes. Wesley asked him for a loan to cover his IRS problems. Mickey was incoherent at the time because as a method actor he was "getting into" his role as Henry Chinaski from Barfly. He erroneously sent the money to the IRA. The tattoo was however a legit IRA tattoo and its genesis was when Mickey was going through a brief homosexual experimentation phase and had a mad man crush on Gerry Adams. Unfortunately, Gerry wasn't impressed and Mickey went back to beating the shit out of his hot model wife.

Until today, I never realized just how many times Mickey Rourke fucked up...he passed on about a half dozen movies that would have made him over $100 million by now between paydays, royalties, etc.  Shit, just the Beta to VHS to Laserdisc to DVD to "Director's Cut" to "Loaded Special Edition" to Blu Ray would have netted him that much on 48 hrs and Pulp Fiction alone.

But hey, at least he fucked the shit out of Lisa Bonet while she was still relevant.
