H.R. Pufnstuf

Lidsville

The Bugaloos

Sigmund and the Sea Monsters

Land of the Lost

Far Out Space Nuts

What was your favorite show?

There have been many rumors and allegations surrounding some of the Sid and Marty Kroft shows and their characters.  The Kroft brothers have always denied any influence such as LSD to create some of these colorful shows and their characters.

A talking flute, real-life mushroons and just the bizarre the costumes probably led to these rumors.

Did you know Eddie Munster and the kid on Lidsville were the same person?  Butch Patrick  I think I knew that but forgot about it.

My favorites, David Cross and Bob Odenkirk from "Mr. Show" did a great mockery of exactly that-the drug state of The Kroft Supershow.  The sketch was called the  Altered State of Drugachussetts.

Sid and Marty Kroft won a big judgment from McDonalds in the early 1970s on the theory that Mayor McCheese of McDonaldland was a blatant ripoff of HR Pufnstuf.

My earliest memory of those was Lidsville and Sigmund. I also love Land of the Lost.  I have seen all of them in recent years and Land of the Lost holds up best for adult viewing. It actually had some really cool time travel concepts, not unlike Lost. I'm sure the writers for Lost got at least a few of their ideas from that. Does anyone else see any similarities between the two?

IP,

Now that you mention it, I do although I never would have thought of it.

I hated Sid and Marty Kroft shows except for ElectroWoman. I thought her sidekick Dynagirl was hot.

I liked Lidsville and Sigmund, but my favorite was Land of the Lost.  I went back and watched Lidsville the other day,  wow~!  How could have I sat through that as a kid?

I got Land of the Lost (season 1 ) a few years ago, but I never got around to watching it.

Wasn't a huge fan of any of the shows. Puf N Stuf was OK.

Sid and Marty Kroft designed the Banana Splits' costumes. They didn't produce it, though, that was all Hanna Barbera.

How bad are your production values when Hanna Barbera look like a class outfit compared to you?

That said, there'd be no Lost without Land of the Lost in my opinion. It also influenced V (lizard creatures) and a short-lived series called Otherworld which I thought was interesting. So I think Land of the Lost should get some props.

Despite its bad production values, it wasn't that badly written. D.C. Fontana wrote for it.

I wonder why the Banana Splits never came out with a DVD.

I think one either is out or is coming out soon.
