Now we are shooting for the shortest thread in messageboard history. I assume his AWA title losses (Gene Kiniski, Mr. M, The Crusher, Fritz Von Erich, Nick Bockwinkle, Mad Dog Vachon, Dr. X) were all by pinfall and I would be surprised if there were others.

Another dumb question - Did he even venture outside of the AWA very often?

Verne wrestled in Japan for IWE and other groups, right through 1980 before retirement #1. He also had sporadic appearances at MSG through the 70's, including a couple of title defenses at least (Eddie Graham and Mr. Fuji).

Verne I believe was also pinned by Bobby Duncum in 1976 a few times. There were a bunch of them in his more formative years (the 50's), but that was before the AWA came into existence.

Plus he was pinned for falls in several 2/3 title matches in the 70's, including by Billy Robinson and Jimmy Valiant. I would guess that if you counted those there would be plenty more.

Verne lost some non title matches in the AWA. A few to Ivan Koloff, A few to Billy Robinson. He also would drop falls in 2 out of 3 fall bouts. Jimmy Valiant even won a fall by pin against Verne in Chicago before Verne rallied to win the next two.

I'll post some more outside the AWA appearances for Verne later today when I have more time. Khawk mentioned MSG. Verne wrestled Buddy Wolff there and also teamed with Andre against The Valiant Brothers at MSG. I'll post that stuff later.

There's also a match available on 24/7 from MSG in the 70's where Verne pinned Nicolai Volkoff. He didn't have the AWA title at that time so it's post-75, that much I remember.

Verne began his career working NWA territories just like almost everyone else and had little political power at the time.  He was best known during that time period for wrestling in Fred Kohler's Chicago territory and appearing on the Dumont Network's Marigold TV shows, called by Jack Brickhouse.  That show was insanely popular in the early years of TV.  I would imagine that at that time Gagne lost his share of matches.
