Guys,
I'm headed for Chi-Town tomorrow morning. Staying in Grant Park and a convention at the Mccormick Convention center 'til Weds.

Anyplace you guys recommend for eating there?  Steak joints?

My damned brother isn't answering his cell so I'm SOL.

Thanks!
Eric

HBF,

What hotel are you staying at?

I live near the Loop and if you have time I'll take you to Ricobenes. Ask Claw. It's a great neighborhood place.

If you can get away for a few hours reach me at 773 534 9056 on Tuesday from 6 til 2.

Thanks guys.

Millers Pub is literally next door to the Palmer House where I attended a reception last night.  We met some people who asked my boss to go to Fogo De Chao, which we could go to in Atlanta.  It was good, but I would have preferred Millers.

We're attending the HIMSS (Healtch-tech) conference and this trip seems to be all about business.  Rich, I'll call you if I get the chance and seriously appreciate that offer!

I have no idea why Buddy Guy's Legends website is inaccessible from this hotel (we're at the Best Western Grant Park) but that's what I hoped to do while I was here.

I've got a set group of places I like to hit up, mostly in the Wrigleyville/Lakeview area, record shops, diners, bars, etc. Probably not classy enough for the high rollin' HBF...

Naitch, I like blues bars.  I'm not too high-rolling.  I also ate at the diner behind my hotel this morning.  We don't get too many real diners in Atlanta.  A Jersey boy like me appreciates them!

We spent all day Tuesday at this convention at McCormick Place.  Met my brother and his girlfriend at Gracey-something on 14th and Michigan just down the road from where I stayed.  We drank Glenlivet, which I almost never touch unless my brother's around.
My brother and his girlfriend left and me and my boss went to Buddy Guy's Legends.  They had a killer blues guitarist named Joe Moss, and then Buddy went up and sang with him.  I had a great time there.
Today, we went to the convention again but it was dead.  I had to wait for my flight at 6:30CST and we spent a few hours drinking at the Harry Caray's bar in Midway.

I have always had a good time in Chicago and have never met somebody from there who I disliked.

HBF,

Next time you hit Chi Town hook up with Rich and go to Ricobenes. It's right by White Sox Park aka The Cell. Awesome neighborhood joint. It captures the essence of Chicago.

I've been meaning to check that place out, I've heard a lot of good stuff about it.

I was there a few years back, a guy from our Chicago office who plays blues took us on the Blues tour that white tourist never get to see.  We hit all the blues juke joints in some bad neighborhoods but had a great time.  Ate real soul food and drank a lot of Gin and juice and saw some really good blues.  Then late at night he took us to BluesChicago (or something like that) where all the hotels send tourists wanting to hear blues.  It was like a bad movie.  Plus the drinks tripled in price.

We also did the regualr tourists things like a boat tour, the Art Museum, Wrigley Field, and shopping on Michigan Avenue.

Off-topic but on Grog's point, if you like blues you should watch the movie "Last of the Mississippi Jukes", which is all about the joints in Mississippi.

Buddy Guys definitely is attracting tourists, but it's the real deal.  And there's nobody in the city who is better than him!
