WTF is it with Greensboro and tour openers? This is a pretty big tour, and it's starting in Greensboro? Same thing happened with the Van Hagar reunion in 2004, shocked the hell out of me. I had been praying for a Sammy Van Halen reunion for like 8 years and then imagine my shock when the tour opens in Greensboro...course, I was glad, I got great seats and got to see them when they were still getting along on that tour, but dang. Maybe it's NC as a whole, the Roth reunion kicked off in Charlotte..weird...

I completely agree with Ultimark.  Jerry was the Dead's inspiration, soul, and heart.

However, they messed up by not continuing after his death in the original incarnation if they are going to pull this now.  The Allman Bros. were definitely left for dead (literally) when both Duane and Berry bit the dust, yet they emerged as the best band of their era in our country (with many different members!).

I would have a hard time watching a Dead show without "Cold Rain & Snow", "China Cat Sunflower", etc....sung by the original singer, but that's just me.

I saw the Dead with Jerry multiple times. I saw the current band once. The Dead with Jerry was the better show but the plus about the band without Jerry is you don't have to hear Jerry's vocals all the time. Bob Weir is a much better singer than Jerry Garcia.

A lot of tours start in small markets to work out any kinks before hitting the big cities. KISS used to start their tours in places like Fort Wayne, Lubbock, and Lakeland, FL.

I'll be Grateful when they're all Dead.

i saw jerry on a solo tour about 17 years ago.  it really wasn't that great, nor it wasn't bad as well. pretty average show.

For those interested in was a great day to see the Dead.  Beautiful Sunny 65 degree weather.  Got the the Parking lot at 2Pm and met up with friends and partied all after noon (Guys next to us had a giant tent with a big scren TV watching the masters.)  The Shakedown area (Hippies vending) was wild maybe 10 parking lot rows long some so crowded you couldn't move, they were selling everything from ballons (nitris) to grilled cheese, sticks , t shirts, jewelry and beer.  Tickets were scarce if you didn't have one they were face value or higher.

Went in the show about 7:10 (took 20 minutes to get in the door) show started about 7:40PM 18,000 sold out crowd.  Great show played some of my favorites.  Wareen Hayes has a good voice and sang most of teh Jerry Garcia songs and is a monster on guitar.

Muisc Never Stops

Jack Straw

Estimated Prophet

He's Gone

Touch of Grey

I need a Miracle

Cosmic Charlie

New Potato Caboose

Help on the way>Slipnot>Franklins Tower

They were at MSG tonite. I happened to be in the city and took in all the hippie ambience. NYPD was pretty mellow considering the Deadheads were sitting in large circles in the middle of the sidewalk outside the Garden. No signs of any drugs at all either being dealt or ingested. There was an extraordinary amount of dogs (the four legged kind). I don't know if they're pets or if the hippies eat them. The dogs were not spooked at all as I guess they're used to the crowds by now after being on the road for a month. There were also an inordinate amount of gimps with canes. It was fun hanging out but it really wasn't the circus that completely inhabited the city when the Dead pulled into NYC in the 70's and 80's.

It'd be like the Allman's never playing Whipping Post again 'cause Duane died.

Jesus, I stand corrected for not knowing this.  Sorry Claw for the previous post.

Jerry songs?  That eliminates my issue.  Glad you had a great time!
