With the football season just six weeks away we'll be posting one or two divisional previews a week to get your juices flowing as it pertains to NFL football 2009. We'll keep these simple ~ using the Vegas odds to rank the teams and the storylines being what  I see as being of note. Feel free to comment and make your own predictions and give us something to chew on.

We'll start with the NFC East.

NY Giants

Vegas Over/Under Season Win Total : 10

Odds To Win It All: 10-1

Storyline: Coming off a Super Bowl win in 2007, the G-man were the best team in the league in 2008 until Plaxico shot himself in the leg. The team never recovered and was ousted in the first round by Philly.  The Giants selected WR Hakeem Nicks from North Carolina in the first round of the 2009 draft presumably to fill that spot vacated by Burress.

Philadelphia Eagles

Vegas Over/Under Season Win Total : 9.5

Odds To Win It All: 11-1

Storyline: The Birds spent the 2009 offseason making their QB happy by giving him a raise and going out and getting him “weapons” (Jeremy Macklin WR Missouri and Sean McCoy RB Pittsburgh) Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Johnson was diagnosed with Cancer in the offseason and likely will not be as involved in year’s past. Two years left on McNabb’s deal – clearly this team sees itself as having a two year “window of opportunity”. The offensive line could be a problem.

Dallas Cowboys

Vegas Over/Under Season Win Total : 9

Odds To Win It All: 14-1

Storyline: TO has been sent packing but there is still plenty of talent here. Definite question marks at the WR position and plenty of questions about the team from a “mental toughness” perspective.  They could very well win it all but if they end up not making the playoffs or taking an exit in the wildcard round that would likely spell the end of Wade Phillips run in Dallas. The Boys have lost six straight regular season finales.

Washington Redskins

Vegas Over/Under Season Win Total : 8.5

Odds To Win It All: 30-1

Storyline: The Skins spent the offseason trying to upgrade themselves at QB but are now stuck at bringing back Jason Campbell for yet another year of “development”.  Head Coach Jim Zorn will tell you that Campbell is the guy and that he doesn’t make mistakes, etc – but they don’t take risks either. Started strong last year but limped to the finish line. Lots of rumors that Bill Cowher could end up here.

I think the division winner represents the NFC in the Super Bowl. I don't think the Redskins have a shot at it but Dallas , Philly and the Giants all do. It could come down to breaks and injuries.

If I had money to burn I would put a few bucks on Washington finishing UNDER their forecasted season win total of 8.5

3. Dallas 9-7

4. Redskins 7-9

I agree about the skins. Jason Campbell is not  the answer for them. The rest of the division is a tossup. I would swap Dallas and Philly in the posted standings, but still see the Giants as the team to beat.

Homer Views...

Dallas got rid of several big distractions over the offseason. T.O, Roy Williams not being able to cover anyone and Jessica Simpson. They also took out the trash with Pacman  and Tank.

If they do not make the playoffs, Phillips is gone. If they make the playoffs and lose in the first round I think he is gone as well. I think Romo will survive both scenarios, but will lose his fan support and be given one last chance for next season.

I would love to see Cowher brought in.

P.S. McNabb is a Homo...

Jones and Cowher could never get along. Jones needs a pansy as a coach and that's why Johnson left and Cowher is no pansy.

P.S  You can't spell Homo without the OMO and that rhymes with ROMO. ;)

Looking at their 2009 schedule I can see the Cowboys winning at least 10 games which should get them into the Playoffs. After that it's time to see if Romo can finally win a Playoff game.

Week 1 - at Tampa Bay ( Win ) 1 - 0
Week 2 - NY Giants ( Win ) 2 - 0
Week 3 - Carolina ( Win ) 3 - 0
Week 4 - at Denver ( Win ) 4 - 0
Week 5 - at Kansas City ( Win ) 5 - 0
Week 6 - Bye
Week 7 - Atlanta ( Loss ) 5 - 1
Week 8 - Seattle ( Win ) 6 - 1
Week 9 - at Philadelphia ( Loss ) 6 - 2
Week 10 - at Green Bay ( Win ) 7 - 2
Week 11 - Washington ( Win ) 8 - 2
Week 12 - Oakland ( Win ) 9 - 2
Week 13 - at NY Giants ( Loss ) 9 - 3
Week 14 - San Diego ( Win ) 10 - 3
Week 15 - at New Orleans ( Loss ) 10 - 4
Week 16 - at Washington ( Win ) 11 - 4
Week 17 - Philadelphia ( Win ) 12 - 4

People are mighty high on the Cowboys and not the Skins, i find that to be kinda funny.

I would rather take the Skins over the Cowboys. Aww man i cant wait for Romo to get destroyed if you didn't realize last yr good teams found out how to beat the Cowboys and make Romo look very average. Double TO, and let Romo force all throws to Witten,

This is simply not realistic.   Defeating the Giants in week 2?   No

Winning at Denver in week 4?  Possible but hardly a given.

Defeating San Diego is hardly a given.

I wouldnt bet any money on sweeping the Redskins

And dont even joke about that Eagles game to close out the season. How did that work for you last year??

There is no way the Cowboys sweep the Redskins. If the Redskins go 1-15, that one win would be against the Cowboys.

NCJames wrote: This is simply not realistic.   Defeating the Giants in week 2?   No     Why not - it's not only a home game for Dallas but the first regular season game in the new stadium so the Cowboys will be sky high for this game.Winning at Denver in week 4?  Possible but hardly a given.     Never said that it was a given but Denver is coming off an 8 - 8 season only went 4 - 4 at home last season.

Defeating San Diego is hardly a given.  Once again - I never said that it was a given. But remember that SD only won 3 road games last season.

I wouldnt bet any money on sweeping the Redskins. I see Washington taking a big step backwards this season so a sweep by the Cowboys is certainly possible.

And dont even joke about that Eagles game to close out the season. How did that work for you last year??  I'm not joking. If it comes down to that game to see who gets into the Playoffs I will take my chances on Dallas playing at home.

RE Cowboys W-L record. Got them at 3-3 in the division. They might sweep the Redskins or get swept by the Giants but I think at 3-3 you aren't off by more than one game

Got them winning on the road at Tampa Bay, Denver and at KC. No reason for them to lose at home to Seattle or Oakland. That's 8-3 with games vs Carolina, San Diego, Green Bay, Atlanta and New Orleans that will probably come down to who is playing better at the time. Three of those five are at home. They should go 11-5 give or take a game.

That sounds about right.
