The WON mentioned at least one PPV finish was changed because of that, and now suddenly that won't be a concern.

Smackdown is so light on top babyfaces right now due to Jeff Hardy's departure and CM Punk's heel turn that I doubt the WWE would try to tank one of its few big babyface draws on that brand. After Taker, there is a deep drop off. Rey would have to be considered #2 in the pecking order regardless of his suspension.

He's the second most popular guy in the company, the second in merchandise sales, the first in the Hispanic demo, and amybe even first in the young children demo.  That's just a nutty conspiracy theory.  They're going to sabotage him for Dolph Ziggler?  We don't even know that Rey refused to job to him.  I doubt that he did.  He was promised a long title reign and for this ady and age he got one and he already beat Ziggler twice on PPV and once on TV.

SD is weak on faces but Morrison is seriously ready to be moved up. I have an awful feeling the Punk vs Taker matches are going to undo all the good the run with Hardy did for Punk

They're saying that 'Taker was brought back to take Punk to the next level.  We'll see.  SD! has been so good that I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.  Punk really needs to beat him at Breaking Point though.  Morrison was supposed to get the next run at Punk and now he's been pushed back down with 'Taker's return, so who knows what he winds up doing.  Hopefully they can keep his momentum going until after the Punk-'Taker program.

I'm not sure what Jim Ross is scratching his head about (unless he's gone blind), but JR briefly blogs on Misterio:

I was hugely disappointed to hear of Rey Mysterio being suspended for violation of the WWE Wellness Policy. That's a real head scratcher but it will open the door for some young lions to take their game and the perception that goes with it to the next level including Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison just to name a couple.

It was mentioned in the WON that Dolph was penciled in to win the title last month but "politics" changed the finish. A few days later he clarified it to point out that Rey was promised a long IC run in order to get him to stay back when he was debating leaving the company.

I'm theorizing, for sure, but it's not completely wacky to suggest WWE would tank a guy who had the upper hand in negotiations. It's well documented how they like to cut people like that down to size (no pun intended).

Plus again, for Rey never to have a Wellness violation before now is highly suspect itself. He's probably the most obvious juicer on the roster, and even came up on the Signature scandal.

Rey didn't come up in the Signature investigation and wasn't suspended before this time.  He was named as receiving steroids from Dr. David Wilbert during the pre-"wellness" period and receiving painkillers from Dr. Phil Astin (not a giant prescription, but why is a guy in San Diego getting painkillers from an Atlanta primary care doctor?).

I think the bigger conspiracy is the the timing of the suspension.  Rey gets a supposed 30 day suspension, but SD! is already in the can for tonight.  Then on Tuesday he gets to tape next week's SD!.  So he's on TV an extra week and a half during this "suspension".  They barely even need to write him out of the show, just don't book him for a couple of weeks and I don't think anyone will notice.  The only people getting screwed are the ones who bought tickets to house shows because he's one of the big draws on the road, but those tickets are already sold for the most part.

WWE has updated their announcement regarding Rey Mysterio's suspension, noting it would begin Wednesday 9/2, so it appears Mysterio will work this Tuesday's Smackdown taping in order to drop the WWE Intercontinental championship. Mysterio is expected to be pulled from this weekend's house shows.

WWE Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio claimed he was suspended after failing to provide a proper prescription for painkillers he was taking for arm and knee issues.

In an interview with The Record in Mexico , Mysterio claims he was suspended for 30 days despite only having 24 hours to provide the prescription.  Mysterio claimed he was away for three weeks on vacation and went overseas to promote Summerslam, then returned to find out about the request from Dr. Black of Aegis Science, which oversees the WWE's Wellness Policy.

Due to his schedule, Mysterio claims he asked his doctor,  David Ciao of San Diego, to clarify that Mysterio's prescription was legitimate, only to learn he was being suspended by World Wrestling Entertainment.

Mysterio commented that the company didn't wait to get the call from his doctor and in the end, after receiving the call, the suspension stands.  Mysterio claimed that on a level of 1 to 100 of testing positive for a substance via the WWE Wellness Testing, "I left with two percent" (over the allowed levels).

As we noted on Friday in the PWInsider.com Elite section, Mysterio had been telling those close to him that he had been working despite a lot of nagging, constant pain in his knees stemming from his most recent injury suffered a few months back while wrestling Shelton Benjamin for an episode of WWE Superstars.

Mysterio is slated to appear at this Tuesday's Smackdown taping and one would expect he would drop the IC title at that point. He had been scheduled to face Dolph Ziggler at the WWE Breaking Point PPV. He will instead be suspended from 9/2 to 10/2, so the earliest he could return would be 10/4 WWE Hell in A Cell PPV in Newark, NJ or the Trenton, NJ Smackdown taping on 10/6.

Mysterio claimed to The Record that "the situation was handled badly" and also claimed he would comment on the suspension on his "official website", although the link to that website now leads to WWE's official Mysterio page on their roster.

Numerous WWE sources have noted there is a lot of heat within the company on Intercontinental champion Rey Mysterio for going forward and doing an interview with The Record in Mexico explaining his side of his recent WWE Wellness Suspension.
There was an expectation within the company over the weekend that by speaking out of turn, Mysterio put himself in a position where the company has to punish him further (possibly a fine) or else risk someone else following suit in a similar situation.
Several sources I spoke to also felt Mysterio did the interview to build sympathy for himself in the Mexican market in the event that the situation leads to his WWE departure, since Mexico would be his most likely destination in that event.
Interesting to note that Mysterio did work the Smackdown house shows over the weekend, losing to World champion CM Punk. Mysterio was initially pulled from the house shows, a decision that was reversed when the company opted to start the suspension on 9/2 in order to finish Mysterio up off television at tomorrow's Smackdown taping.
Mysterio has told wrestlers who have asked that he had a legitimate prescription for a painkiller and that the company didn't give him proper notice and time for his doctor to give them details on his prescription. He's told several that he hopes the company will reconsider his case when he has a chance to speak management personally on Tuesday. WWE has reversed at least one Wellness violation that I can think of, but not since they began the policy of announcing violations publicly.

Since Rey had one foot out the door already and they had to beg him to stay, it seems like he holds all the cards.  I know he was convinced that he could make more in Mexico and indies right now, and if he still believes that then I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves over this.  His departure would be a huge blow to WWE, especially on the merchandising end.

Mysterio taking roids is sort of like Louie Anderson doing Optifast. Sure, it's an improvement, but then you lose the raison d'etre of the act.
