5.0 out of 5 stars Best written wrestling book to date ... very different, August 31, 2009

This review is from: Drawing Heat the Hard Way: How Wrestling Really Works (Paperback) Drawing Heat the Hard Way is one of the best wrestling books I've ever read. A lot of times with these books, you get the feeling the author is just going through the motions to earn a quick payday. Larry Matysik is different in that he takes you inside the "mind" of the business in a 3 dimensional ways that others can't. It took guts to take on a project like this, but Larry has shown with his earlier projects that he is leading the way in book form wrestling journalism. He pulls off another winner that will educate, entertain and make you think about wrestling in a different way.

There is a chapter on Vince Jr. that will leave you sitting back and wondering what must really go on behind WWE closed doors.

a chapter on the independent contractor status of wrestlers is equally fascinating ... each chapter is better than the last ... I really feel like I have a better understanding of what goes on behind the promotions doors.

5 star read ... it will rate at the top of any collection of wrestling books ... it ranks at the top of mine ...

I'm a fan of Matysik and enjoy his work, but "Drawing Heat The Hard Way" was not a great book imo.  If you knew very little about the business then I can see why you'd like it, but it's really for beginnings without much insight.  More of a primer than an in-depth examination.  That's probably why Gary liked it so much (and his little biz ont he side with Larry)

Very true.  It's all part and parcel of the agony and ecstasy of being Gary Cubeta.

This is true.  Believe me, this guy has forged a reputation for himself that will take a long time (if ever) to erradicate.  Is it an honest (if biased) review? Yes it is. Is he still worth mocking even if he does something that is common?  You bet your ass he is.

Are we 100% sure he read this one?

Does it matter?  He could rate a fucking Happy Meal  or a microwave burrito as tasting like shit and you people would find a reason why he was wrong.
