Wow. Shocked. It was either really bad or they had him on a very short leash. All I know is he was an awesome talent who got buried for no reason a long time ago. He'll be a great addition to TNA if there still is a TNA. I don't see him going back to Mexico, at least not for long.

I'll be very interested to hear the full details of all this once it gets out.

Wasn't he considered a bully in the locker room? Either he got into a fight, or he shot on somebody in the ring. Or maybe he hit somebody that was not a wrestler, because they've usually let the boys sort out their own problems. If HR was involved, it's all it takes in a public company.

He probably saved someone's job by being a dumbass.  Guys were gonna get released, he just made one of the cuts easy for WWE.  He was probably making way more than most of the guys who were gonna be released.
Maybe now they can bring back the long time timekeeper they let go, which to me is a bush league move, akin to say Verne Gagne telling Kenny Jay and George Gadaski to take a walk.

There seem to have been rumours that he was on the way out for a couple of years. Maybe he got fed up.

He just wanted out of his contract, so he could go back to Mexico and beat Mistico some more. No big loss..

I thought he had the 'it' factor to be a top guy, but thought after his first year or so he became just another guy and has been really bland the past few years, especially once Ricardo split.

I always found him to be way overrated. Never got the love, mediocre in ring talent and subpar mic skills.

No real loss, especially if he's as douchey as has been said.

I thought that for someone who wore a mask his entire career in Mexico, he adjusted very quickly to WWE style, and was oozing charisma, had perfect facial expressions, and very solid ring work.  All you need to do is watch one Sin Cara match to learn that it's a big adjustment, and Del Rio made it better and quicker than anyone since Rey Misterio, and he doesn't really count since he spent so much time in ECW and WCW first.

I really liked those early-on vignettes he would do, about being so good looking, etc, reminded me a little of Rick Martel's heel-The Model phase...

Del Rio's last match in WWE on Main Event is bizarre.  He comes out and cuts a babyface promo in Spanish to the large Mexican contingent in Texas, and then Swagger and Colter come out and play their old heel characters.  Del Rio taps out clean to lose.  It almost seems like the blow-off to his character, even though presumably (unless you're into conspiracy theories) no one had any idea that he would be gone from WWE after the match.

Thae worse thing the WWE did to him was take away Ricky Ricardo & the limosines. I loved the intros & entrances.
