I agree. By making Chris Jericho the champ, you have the belt on by far the best known star in the company as a way of attracting mainstream fans when TV starts in October. Then they start building up a top contender on TV so that at the next big PPV, a homegrown AEW star topples the WWE lifer to win the World Title. In other news, I believe the arena in Washington DC is set up for 14,000. It holds more for NBA and NHL games, but the stage set and the hard camera/production area kill a bunch of seats. Right now StubHub has 3,537 seats for sale, 25% of the capacity. The get in price is just $10 which means people are probably selling at a loss right now, just to move the seats.

He was the ONLY person to put the belt on the first time.. As the saying goes, the biggest marks are behind the curtain and Baron Corbin and some others were having a field day with the decision, calling AEW and their fans hypocrites. Corbin missed the part where people were upset with WWE for putting the belt on part-timers like Lesnar and Goldberg and weren't just getting on them because they were older. Certainly the match that Jericho had with Adam Page was better than any match Lesnar has had in years and that Goldberg has ever had. Like I said, going into the debut shows on TNT, Jericho obviously needed to be champion. That was a no-brainer, although many seemed to think that AEW was going to "make" Page. These people are clueless. Last edited on Tue Sep 3rd, 2019 03:53 pm by srossi ____________________ This thread was great before AA ruined it. |

Otherwise, you go into TV on TNT with a very Indy look and feel. There's nobody out there that doesn't believe Chris Jericho isn't worthy of a major belt at this stage of the game, I mean, he's been WWE Champion in the past few years and has held every belt in WWE. He also was NJPW IC Champ in the past year. He's as well known as anybody that they could put in the spot. And whomever beats him will get a huge rub, and it can't be Cody or Omega.Anyone who thinks that belt should have been on anyone OTHER than Jericho doesn't know the sport and doesn't understand how important television is to AEW. He was the ONLY person to put the belt on the first time..

Also worth noting that they've been beating Omega and I wouldn't say burying him, but questioning his motivation on commentary. So the strategy seems to be to take the top guy they have and make him work his way up from scratch again, rather than assume that the audience will just accept him as the top guy from the get-go based on his run in NJPW. I think that's smart. It also gave PAC a huge rub to beat him coming off of a WWE run where he always had great matches but had the stench of a segregated Cruiserweight on him. Kenny needs to be built up on TV to the US audience, because the audience that is going to these events knows who he is and he's basically teflon to them. He doesn't get hurt by these losses (and it makes me think Mox was going over too).

PWInsider announced that Marty Scurll's contract with ROH ends in November. Obviously there is huge speculation that he will wind up joining all his friends in AEW, although ROH is reportedly going to make a strong bid to keep him.

PWInsider: The All Elite Wrestling Championship belt was won by Chris Jericho on Saturday 8/31 and lost on Sunday 9/1 after Jericho returned to Florida. The Tallahassee, Florida Police Department Records Department confirmed to PWInsider.com this afternoon that a police report was filed by Chris Jericho reporting Grand Theft of a Championship belt. PWInsider.com is awaiting a copy of the report, but has been advised that until an investigation is closed, aspects of the report will be redacted, per department policy. PWInsider.com has confirmed the belt in question was the AEW title Jericho captured at All Out the night before in Chicago, defeating Adam Page. The belt was inside a limo that Jericho had used to transport himself from the airport. The AEW title belt was inside the limo. Jericho, who had picked up the wrong luggage, ate at a restaurant while his driver returned the incorrect luggage back to the airport. When the driver returned, the AEW title belt was no longer in the limo, resulting in police being called. A version of the police report floating online reads: Grand Theft/ 2400 N. Monroe Street / 7:13 PM "The victim reported the theft of his championship wrestling belt while he was eating inside Longhorn Steakhouse. The victim stated he arrived at the Millionaire Club Airport Terminal and place(d) the belt inside his rented limousine. The limo driver shuttled the victim to Longhorn for dinner. The victim remained at Longhorn while the limo driver returned to the airport. The victim had taken the wrong luggage from the airport and the driver took it back to the terminal. When the driver picked up the victim from the restaurant, the belt was missing. Responding officers searched the limo and airport for the belt without success. On-call CID (Note from Mike: Criminal Investigation Department) was consulted, and forensics responded to the scene. Victim: Christopher "Jericho" Irvine, W/M, 11/9/70" PWInsider.com was told the case remains open and police are investigating. Note: AEW, on Instagram, responded to comments regarding the situation, writing, "Authorities are working on it as we speak. Thank you for your concern." Jericho has already cut a nice in-character heel promo on the thief that has been posted to all AEW platforms.

Ted Dibiase talked about "bologna blowouts" in one of his books. Someone would stop at a 7-Eleven or supermarket and get a loaf of bread, a pack of Oscar Mayer bologna and a case of beer (pre-open container law).

Forgot the can of pork n' beans, opened up with a pocket knife. Wrestlers? Shit, this was my college menu. Add some Ramen, 50 cent box of mac and cheese, and splurge on the mega package of bologna and Wonder Bread.
