On this week’s ROH TV, they teased a break-up of The Foundation when The Righteous very obviously took out-of-context video of Jay Lethal saying he doesn’t care about them. I wonder where that was going and how much they have in the can before Lethal leaves.

New ROH Tag champions Matt Taven and Mike Bennett will defend their titles on the next NWA PPV, Hard Times 2, on Dec. 4 against Aron Stevens and J.R. Kratos. This will take place a week before they defend the belts at Final Battle against the Briscoe Bros. in what will likely be the last defense of the belts as we know them.

Rhett Titus now announced you take on Austin Aries on this PPV as well. ROH’s demise is helping the NWA fill a whole card.

Streaming this weekend, Jay Lethal will have his final ROH match ever, facing EC3. This was obviously taped before ROH cut all contracts and Lethal signed with AEW. This one is truly the end of an era for long-time ROH fans.

That's some show they are putting on. Trevor Murdoch vs Mike Knox in PPV main event in 2021.

I believe this was the angle that I took about a month ago somewhere in this thread.  With AEW being pretty much at capacity, WWE letting people go for sneezing during group meetings, and Impact having to count their cash before putting on a TV taping...the only "bigger small places" are GCW and the NWA.  And with NWA having PPVs, I would think that would be the preferred way to go rather than wrestling on a canvas that has been bled on five hundred times.  Billy Corgan lost so much with the pandemic, and he can get back twice as much as he lost (and better talent to boot) and could possibly make a run with the NWA.  I mean, people seem to enjoy it because we still talk about it and they still have people show up.  I don't know how much tickets cost to the show but they drew a couple hundred people to the St Louis show and the people didn't look like indy wrestling fans - they looked to be somewhat more sophisticated (almost like Corgan hand picked the audience).   There was a time we were talking about how could he survive with Jocephus dying and another one of his bigger guys going to AEW.  But that Kamille girl that can't wrestle a lick has a great look, and if you have a great look you can get by.  And with all of this WWE and ROH talent walking around, Corgan could hand pick his roster and as long as he can break even on things after paying the talent, this will last a long time.  Corgan doesn't have the money that Tony Khan has but he has enough in the bank where he can pretty much run the NWA how he wants to for as long as he wants to.  I just wish the fucker would bring back NWA Classics on Demand.  That was the best video service ever.

I would anticipate Mike Bennett, and maybe Matt Taven too, will wind up in the NWA full-time. Bennett’s first post-WWE shows were with the NWA. Taven is such a weird case because he won the ROH World title at MSG and has always gotten a huge push, but he’s the most indy of the indies and there’s never any buzz around him. He’d be absolutely lost in AEW with dozens of more talented and over performers above him. WWE obviously isn’t an option. Impact is starting to near capacity themselves, but you never know because they make odd choices (No Way Jose who’s already gone, Steve Maclin who they’re somehow making work there). But I think maybe the NWA would be good for him.  Anyway, there’s something to be said about right place, right time. Taven is always going to have that iconic picture of him standing atop a ladder at MSG holding that title in front of 20,000 fans. That’s something a million indy guys would kill for, and it could’ve been any of them, but it wasn’t.

That’s something a million indy guys would kill for, and it could’ve been any of them, but it wasn’t. Taven isn't very charismatic, nor am I sure that he is smart enough to spell his name.  I met him once, well honestly my kids did as I didn't really care.  There was a Shawn Michaels autograph signing and it was run by Northeast Wrestling, and Taven was their strapholder at the time.  It was like 10AM on a Saturday morning and he showed up basically in his ring gear but jeans on the bottom.  He looked like he was out all night blowing his paycheck up his nose.  Like, he honestly had no business walking through the line shaking peoples' hands the way he looked.  And I've seen him wrestle, he's "good" but there is something missing, almost mechanical.  I thought he would fit with WWE really well because he's not good enough to be any good, so they would force their style on him and he would adapt and thrive.  But that was 2011 and now is 2021 and he's 10 years and a couple of knee surgeries older.  I don't think he translates to Impact, but again not sure how he acts behind the scenes.  I've heard he's all about Matt and not about getting the product over.

The Briscoes Bros. stepped up their social media game in the last 12 hours, telling Tony Khan to call them, calling out The Usos, and releasing a video saying they're coming to a town near you to beat up your local indy heroes.

ROH champion Bandido has tested positive for Covid and is off Final Battle. Talk about the worst case scenario for ROH. They can’t catch a break. A new opponent will be named to face Jonathan Gresham, presumably for the vacant title.

PWInsider reports that the original plan was for Mike Bennett and Matt Taven to come to the NWA for a cross-over angle with ROH that would’ve saw them feuding with Nick Aldis and Doug Williams in both companies. With ROH going on hiatus and Bennett and Taven now looking for work, Billy Corgan decided to just bring them in to work NWA shows for the time being. It’s expected they’ll still wrestle Aldis and Williams, but now exclusively in the NWA.  Corgan already used Bennett shortly after his WWE no-compete ended and he wanted to help him out by giving him some bookings, including on the recent NWA PPV where they successfully defended the ROH Tag titles against Aron Stevens and JR Kratos with ROH’s blessing.

Today Tony Khan announced that he’s planning on supporting ROH and helping out for Final Battle. With one half of he main event out due to Covid, he’s sending Jay Lethal back to ROH one last time to face his former tag partner Jonathan Gresham.  ROH couldn’t have asked for a better scenario. You honestly have to wonder if Bandido even really has Covid. ROH will address the status of the title during the pre-show.

I'll agree with the earlier note that Matt Taven never seemed like much, but having sat down with him and Mike Bennett at the recent NWA taping for a Q&A, the dude is full of charisma and is hilarious. No idea why it doesn't translate.

NWA is definitely benefiting from the ROH shutdown -- but it WAS in the works prior to the announcement, as confirmed by Bennett and Taven.

Here's my piece:

Watching the pre-show and Bandido has vacated the title and Lethal vs. Gresham will now be for the title. They brought back the original belt from 2002 which will be on the line.

They’re not giving much hope for a future right now. Lethal said it could be a match to crown a final champion. The commentary is pretty much a post-mortem name-dropping everyone in talking about the history of the company: Gave Sapolsky, Adam Pearce, Dave Prazak, Roderick Strong, Low-Ki, even sending thoughts and prayers out to the Hardy Boyz.

Effusive thanks to Tony Khan too, who seems to demand it and criticized the NWA for not putting him over more.  Also putting over Impact, NJPW, the NWA, and GCW really trying to give props to everyone from over the years and promote current projects like NJPW Strong.

Rocky Romero is back tonight too.

This really feels like the end.

Well it wasn't the best show from a technical standpoint in ROH history, but they did everything they could under the circumstances to make this a memorable show full of surprises and to give some closure.

FTR came out to brawl with the Briscoes, Deonna Purazzo challenged Rok-C to come to Impact or AAA to face her, and Braun Strowman joined EC3 to beat down the young lions of ROH.

In addition, there were pre-recorded comments taped and sent in from Eddie Edwards, Jimmy Jacobs, Adam Page, Adam Cole, CM Punk, the Young Bucks, and Bryan Danielson.

The Briscoes became 12-time ROH Tag champs, Jonathan Gresham finally won the ROH World title, and they gave Rhett Titus the TV title for his 16 years of service.

They heavily promoted AEW, Impact, the NWA, GCW, and NJPW Strong, including times, channels, websites, and upcoming events, and weren't very shy about heavily mentioning WWE and NXT either, so at times it felt more like an infomercial for other wrestling companies, but it was very clear that they're not sure if they're ever coming back despite ending the show with a graphic saying April 2022.
