I should say in Ireland, it may vary a bit from country to country in Europe. But I know Ireland and the employment laws.

Why the hell would Vince or anybody else in WWE take a hardline stand with Mustafa Ali? He is meaningless to their roster. He's never drawn a dime and is not over, at least from what I can tell because I don't even know who the hell he is - and if he was over, I would at least be able to picture him and his wrestling style in my head. Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman may have been expensive, injury prone, even headcases if you are so inclined to call them that. But they were way over and people came to see them perform. Mustafa Ali isn't getting people to subscribe to Peacock or buy tickets to the live events. So just let the guy go. He won't be going to AEW or anywhere else to be a main eventer.

First, he yelled at Vince and called his ideas dumb (and reading between the lines, probably racist). You don't do that. Second, he publicly asked for his release. You don't do that. And third, even though you might not know who he is, he's extremely popular amongst his peers and is considered to have major talent if used properly. He's a lock to go to AEW and possibly in a major capacity. He has a lot of friends there, and everyone in the WWE locker room felt he should've been a star too. He's on the short list of guys who everyone in the business thinks has breakout potential. He was on his way a couple of times, but my God even by WWE standards his booking was bad.

Yeah, I know it's not unprecedented, but still...all the guys before this I had an idea of who they are. I just looked him up - he's 35! Has he been bouncing around for years on the indies, or did he just start up late? Again, saw his pic on Wikipedia, no fucking clue who this guy is and he looks like "generic long haired jobber" to me.Why the hell would Vince or anybody else in WWE take a hardline stand with Mustafa Ali? Interested to see how a court could hold up a restrictive covenant against an independent contractor.

I'm not sure why you're surprised that someone can't break through on the main roster. If Finn Balor, Cesaro, Samoa Joe, Ricochet, and so many others can't, why would he? As far as the other stuff, he was a late bloomer. He was a cop in Chicago and I think moonlighted as a wrestler. He started in 2005, but I don't think that was full-time. He's the rare case of a guy having very little indy buzz pre-WWE, and then getting the buzz once he was in the system despite never being used well. I first heard of him when he was selected for the Cruiserweight Classic. He mostly skipped NXT and went straight to the main roster through 205 Live, where he got himself over at first before they put the kibbosh on him. But everyone from the midwesrt indy scene knows and loves him: CM Punk, Colt Cabana, Silas Young, Chris Hero, etc. He traveled all those roads and they think he's great.

Turning ugly on social media. #FreeAli was trending this weekend and many fans were tweeting that hashtag directly to WWE accounts. This led @WWEonFOX to start blocking fans who did it, and Mustafa Ali himself then reacted to this by blocking @WWEonFOX and sharing the screenshot with his supporters, writing "oh, word? don’t worry, i gotchu". So everyone is handling this very maturely.

Things don’t seem to be going well. Ali tweeted “I’ll see you all in like 2 1/2 years.” They release people who would kill to stay there and refuse to release people who are desperate to go.

That’s always been a big part of Vince’s strange personality. He rejects those who cater to him unconditionally yet goes out of his way to somehow connect with those who don’t. Apart from a few notable exceptions, such as Randy Savage, he’s made up with everyone he’s had a huge falling out with, including people like The Ultimate Warrior and Bret Hart with whom the relationships seemed damaged beyond repair. There isn’t the personal connection with Vince and Ali but it feels like a variation on the theme.
