pwinsider.com NWA Champion Matt Cardona suffered an arm injury catching Blake Christian on a dive during tonight's Game Changer Wrestling event in Las Vegas. The fear is that Cardona may have suffered some sort of bicep tear. He has canceled a planned appearance to promote an NFT release and is flying home to Florida to get his injury diagnosed. Cardona wrestled two matches this evening in Las Vegas, losing the Digital Media Championship to Rich Swann at a Wrestling Revolver event, then wrestling Christian for GCW. Cardona defeated Christian with a rollup after a low blow. Cardona is scheduled to defend the NWA title against Nick Aldis in the main event of the 6/11 Alwayz Ready PPV (named after Cardona) in Knoxville, TN.

This sucks. Likely this really fucks up the NWA PPV. PWInsider: NWA Champion Matt Cardona announced the following: "Got a MRI today. Bicep is torn. Surgery needed. Will unfortunately need to cancel some dates." Matt Cardona suffered the injury catching Blake Christian on a dive during this past Saturday's Game Changer Wrestling event in Las Vegas and immediately flew home to Florida to get the injury diagnosed. Cardona wrestled two matches that evening in Las Vegas, losing the Digital Media Championship to Rich Swann at a Wrestling Revolver event, then wrestling Christian for GCW. Cardona defeated Christian with a rollup after a low blow. Cardona is scheduled to defend the NWA title against Nick Aldis in the main event of the 6/11 Alwayz Ready PPV (named after Cardona) in Knoxville, TN. The status of that bout is unknown at this time.

This is the problem with independent wrestling, he's going to have to pay out of pocket for this one. If he were still with WWE, that's taken care of for him. A torn bicep isn't the same as a torn quad or something of the sort - normal humans could do their job with a torn bicep. With a wrestler it's a lot harder, but as long as he doesnt rip it off the bone he can at least use the arm a little bit and make a match happen.

Recently the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Worlds Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona was injured at the GCW Downward Spiral event in Las Vegas, NV on May 28. This calls into question whether or not Cardona will be able to defend his championship at his signature pay-per-view Alwayz Ready on June 11 in Knoxville, TN. "I don't care if I have to drive, walk or crawl. I don't know what's going to happen, but the Champ will be there,” Cardona said on the 6/1 broadcast of Busted Open Radio. Cardona is now having surgery very shortly, so it's almost impossible that he will be able to wrestle, although he has promised to be at the NWA PPV.

But if it's just a tear, it could be a total work for the PPV - not the injury angle, but the surgery timing. Unless Corgan is married to him, he is smart enough to realize he needs to drop the strap if possible. But maybe Corgan lets him keep the belt until he's healthy. Who knows?

A bit of a shame for the NWA, because no one else on that roster is close to being on Cardonald level. Most of them plain suck, and Nick Aldis has lost whatever value he could have had by staying behind the Forbidden Door these past two plus years.

Cardona wrestled a match against Blake Christian for GCW last night, losing in 1 minute 14 seconds. Keeps the mystery going as to the extent of his injury.

Tonight at the NWA PPV, Billy Corgan forced Matt Cardona to vacate the NWA title after he announced he would be out for 4-5 months. The title was put up in a 4-way with Nick Aldis, Trevor Murdoch, Thomas Latimer, and the returning Sam Shaw (Dexter Lumis). Murdoch pinned Aldis to become a 2-time champion.
