A lot, especially back in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Guys would occasionally debut on a PPV and win a squash too.

I'd divide this into three categories. Squashes where a match is won quickly as a surprise, but the two sides were roughly at the same level going into the match. Squashes where the winner is clearly at a higher level than the loser and the win is just to get the winner more over, but the loser has some credibility, possibly a "jobber to the stars." Finally, a straight up squash match against a jobber or unknown enhancement talent. The second is probably the most frequent, especially in the 80s and 90s. The first case is rarer and also subjective. Did Wardlow "squash" MJF? I don't think so, but some do. As for genuine squashes of the type you would have seen on WWF Superstars, WCW Worldwide or AEW Dark. Not so many. Off the top of my head I can only think of MVP's debut against Marty Garner and "The Creatures" who were on one of the early Halloween Havocs. Diesel vs Backland - Category 1? King Kong Bundy vs SD Jones - Category 3?

There were so many guys who weren’t literal enhancement talent but were used as jobbers at various points, even if they were Tony Garea-level jobbers. Kevin debuted as Oz at Halloween Havoc squashing Tom Zenk, who was in that category. Mordecai debuted at a WWE PPV squashing Scotty 2 Hotty long after the latter was being pushed. Guys like Bill Irwin and Mike Enos were used as jobbers, including on PPV, and never got a push in WCW even if they were “someone” elsewhere.

Tom Zenk got squashed by Vader and Rick Rude under the hood as Halloween Phantom, but when Oz debuted, he beat Powerhouse Tim Parker with the helicopter ride. There is a segment in today's fandom who grumble when a match is treated like a squash, like it's a personal attack. A squash can be quite refreshing and a palate cleanser, especially if the event is a marathon run. Another WCW-era squash in 1993 was Sid Vicious, returning in 35 seconds to lay waste to Van Hammer, who had been seen in the middle of the card for most of his run previously. Category 1 includes: -Sheamus v Daniel Bryan -Giant v Chris Benoit (maybe 1.5) -Big Showgun v Angle Crowd shat on 1 & 2, third was more comedy. But in 1 & 2 the loser came out looking better BECAUSE of the crowd reaction and resulting pushes. Cat 3: -didn't Nash squash Tim Horner in c. 20 seconds? -pretty sure Ryback had a jobber in one of his PPV Goldbergs -Mankind over Dwayne Gill

Does Razor Ramon beating Backlund count? I remember being surprised at the time how quick that was after such a bit deal made about hardly ever losing.

It was at WM right before Backlund turned heel IIRC. They had absolutely no idea what to do with him as a white meat babyface in the ‘90s.

Can't remember the name of the PPV, but sometime in the fall of 2017, the Bludgeon Brothers (Harper and Rowan) had a squash match against Breezango on a WWE PPV....errrr, "Special Event". I'd say it'd rank as "Category #2" on Kriss's list.
