Mario Galento interview from 1974 "exposing The Business" - YouTube

Side note.  Does anybody know who is selling these 60s, 70s photos on ebay?  A bunch not really seen widely before (not to me anyway).  Pictures of a young Big Bad John, Count Drummer, some 70s mid card guys I'm not familiar with.
It sort of reinforces the Tales from the Territories show that things were not seen as a joke back then.  People really believed they were seeing a contest when Mr. Kleen got in the ring.

Just watched episode one. Sort of what I expected and it was OK for what it was. But thanks for that interview, I'd never heard of this before and it's pretty notable. Don't know if it caused much of a stir at the time?

If any of you guys like Jericho’s podcast, he has one with the two creators of the series. Was pretty good and kept my attention for the whole hour. I think it was from summertime but I just listened to it the other day.

These guys have turned this into a while franchise that has taken over most of Vice’s programming. I just heard they had a “Dark Side of Comedy” that just finished Season 1. I want to check that out. They also have “Dark Side of Football”, “Dark Side of the ‘90”, and 1 or 2 others.

For people like us is there anything new in the shows so far? I tried to watch and got fifteen minutes into the Memphis one. The whole "treated like it was real and a sport" thing is sometimes true. Then Lawler wrestles Frankenstein or the San Diego chicken

There are clips here and there that I haven’t seen before, but if you’re on a message board like this you obviously will know the stories. I’m sure the show is great for most of its audience though.

Yeah, this. I've watched two episodes and I heard most of it before. Dark Side of the Ring had quite a bit that I hadn't heard before, especially as it went into the lesser known stories like Kanyon and Bruiser Bedlam.

Last night's show was on Stampede, with the panel being Bret Hart, Abdullah the Butcher, David Schultz, and "No Class" Bobby Bass. They told the old Mabel rib, which I think everyone has heard of by now, but there were a few other good stories. Bret blamed Bad News Allen for killing the territory in December 1983 by causing Stu to lose his license in 2 towns in 2 nights for attacking fans in the middle of the Archie Gouldie feud, and getting himself suspended and causing Ed Whalen to quit. Not sure how true that is.  A quick look at Cagematch shows that the feud did indeed kick off in Dec. 1983 and on Dec. 23, Gouldie beat him for the N.A. title, at which point Allen went back to Japan and wasn't seen in Stampede again for 3 months.  Whether that was a planned break or Allen needing to leave the territory, I don't know. Bret said that feud was supposed to carry them for months and Allen ruined it and that basically led to Stu giving up and selling to Vince in the summer of 1984.

Anyway, I enjoyed the Gouldie promo clips though, he's one of those guys I haven't seen a ton of, but I know he drew a lot of money in Canada and in the South, and he seemed like a really good promo.

Looking forward to that one. Bobby Bass is a name I only know from old magazines, don't think I've ever even seen a picture of him.

Bret had a great line at the end of the show.  Something like, "Stampede made all of us stars, and Bobby, you tried your best."  LOL

Just watched it and hadn't seen your post. I laughed at that one myself.

Abby looks like he lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw him on anything.

The Bad News Brown - Archie Gouldie Stampede thing sounds familiar and I may have read about it many moons ago in McCoy's Stampede book.

Yep, I'm sure Abby is fucked but he looked better. I know you couldn't see him from head to toe and I'm guessing he still needs a wheelchair.

Is that book good?

It was a long time ago that I read it but I remember it being very good, yeah. I’d recommend it for sure.

Did the Florida episode have any new insight into Eddie Graham's suicide? Supposedly had to shoot himself twice and all that.
I guess next up is Polynesian Pro Wrestling. I wonder, since Rock produces the show, if they'll go into the story about the guy who tried to run opposition and Lia Maiva sent goons to scare him to death. I guess she eventually told him he could run the show if he paid them ten grand for I guess running his own show opposition, rented their equipment, and booking two or three people she told him to book. Guy went to the cops and wore a wire. Lars Anderson and Maiva went to trial for extortion but were found not guilty. Wonder if Lars Anderson will be on the show.
