"Tales From the Territories", which will be exactly what it sounds like, will premiere on Vice TV on Oct. 4, co-produced by The Rock and the creators of "Dark Side of the Ring".  It seems that The Rock will also be the narrator/host.  Word is that "Dark Side" is also coming back for Season 4 later in the year, but this will be the focus first.

Guess Dark Side of the Ring will not be doing one on Rocky Johnson.

I forgot this was on. It premiered last week and that episode will be replayed tonight before the new one. I set my DVR.

It's a decent show, but I was hoping for more. As soon as I heard "people believed back then" and "it's more of a performance today" my eyes rolled and I knew were in for the same tall tales and old carneys still working the marks. I know Jon Boucher was doing research for the show, and it was cool to see newspaper clippings to back up some of the stories, but they got away will all the old bullshit that can't be proven. I think it's pretty much accepted that the Mario Galento losing his eye story isn't true, but here it was again. I was hoping for something more, but I guess that this is as good as you are ever going to get from old-time 'rasslers. It's still entertaining, because these guys are great at telling stories. But it's mostly just stories. I guess "Tales From the Territories" is an accurate descroption.

This is all well and good. But it's not made for guys like us on the beej board. I'm sure that even if every territory is covered, they can't tell us anything we don't already know. Great show for casuals, but virtually everything has been done.

It's literally just a roundtable of wrestlers telling stories like RF Video would sell, and not much better produced.  It's fine for what it is.  I'm not sure what else people were expecting.

Maybe you heard about it, but the one story that was new to me was the symphony match that's supposedly in the Smithsonian.

I'm pretty sure I have that on video someplace.

I remember Dutch writing about it in his column in the mag that Apter was with in the 90s after he left PWI.

For those that haven't heard it, here's a radio call in show with Mario Galento not long after this happened.  No mention of having his eye pulled out.  From what I understand, the idea that Jerry Jarrett could have done that to Mario GAlento is ridiculous.  The radio show is interesting,  Galento exposes wrestling and talks about how he can't wrestle in Tennessee anymore.  Mentions the in ring attack

Mario Galento interview from 1974 "exposing The Business" - YouTube

Side note.  Does anybody know who is selling these 60s, 70s photos on ebay?  A bunch not really seen widely before (not to me anyway).  Pictures of a young Big Bad John, Count Drummer, some 70s mid card guys I'm not familiar with.
It sort of reinforces the Tales from the Territories show that things were not seen as a joke back then.  People really believed they were seeing a contest when Mr. Kleen got in the ring.
