PWInsider:

Former NWA Champion Nick Aldis announced in an Instagram subscriber video tonight that he had given notice to the National Wrestling Alliance.  Aldis, 36 years old, is slated to perform at next week's NWA Hard Times 3 PPV next week in New Orleans.

As PWInsider.com reported back in July there were issued between the two sides after Aldis was pulled from the scheduled main event of the NWA 74 PPV, reporting, "Aldis has been critical of the creative direction for the NWA, which is 100% Corgan's vision at this point, and that led to a breakdown.  Another source stated that there was "magma level" heat towards Aldis for promoting himself above the NWA and for his constantly speaking out regarding Corgan's creative decisions."

We are told that Aldis, in his announcement that he had given notice tonight, made it clear he was not happy with NWA or its current direction.  His contract with the promotion ends in January 2023, and unless some sort of agreement is made, Nick Aldis (who at one point passed on an AEW offer to remain loyal to the National Wrestling Alliance) will be exiting the promotion he helped put on the map after Billy Corgan purchased the NWA in 2017.

This guy wasted some of his best years in NWA. He was the only guy guy worth anything on that roster after everyone decent left during their Covid shutdown. Corgan repaid his loyalty by creating a roster of indie nobodies and washed up former WWE failures. They had something unique going at the beginning, and Corgan did everything wrong after the shutdown.

It started with firing Dave Lagana for doing absolutely nothing.  Maybe Lagana was the driving force behind Power's success in the early days because it all fell apart quickly after he left, Covid notwithstanding.

I haven't understood the heat between Aldis and Corgan for some time.  At the beginning, I thought it had to be a work.  Corgan removed literally his only draw from a World title shot and the main event picture.  It made no sense.  Trevor Murdoch as NWA champion is just embarrassing, you could literally get any more recent WWE cast-off to represent your company and be in better hands.  Literally anyone.  They could've put the belt on Bo Dallas or Dexter Lumis when they were available.  There's no one who would've been a worse choice than Murdoch.  Maybe even Two Dimes for a fresh start.  Corgan stepped in shit with Matt Cardona suddenly becoming an indy sensation, without him holding the ship together until his injury, the NWA wouldn't have even existed this year.  Jesus Christ, they're pushing Rodney Mack in 2022!

Now the NWA has suspended Aldis effective immediately and announced he is pulled from his scheduled appearance at the Hard Times PPV. I really don't know why they're playing hard ball with him like this and just doesn't let him finish up. So he's already gone and I guess they will hold him under contract for the next 3 months. Just a really bad look for Corgan.

He should be happy not to be on that show. The show had 14 matches scheduled, with nine (NINE!) title matches (8 NWA and one MLW). Aldis had been scheduled to face Odinson (some indie nobody with a Viking gimmick I think). Tyrus is in the main event. They should be paying people to watch that, not selling tickets.

Power on YouTube in I guess 2019? That was fun. Flawed but fun.

Aldis, Storm, Eli Drake, and 2 or 3 others….seemed like a small but talented crew, with a real old school vibe…..and as Cornette would say people that looked like grown men.

Eddie Kingston and Ricky Starks were great there too.

In an interview with Sam Roberts earlier this week, Aldis had this to say about Billy Corgan as a booker: "I'll try to be as nice as I can about this, he's not very good at it."

In case we needed definitive proof, Tyrus won the NWA World Heavyweight Title last night.

Wow, I didn’t hear anything at all about this show and can’t believe they went with Tyrus.

The match was as horrible as you would expect. Matt Cardona, did his best, and Trevor Murdoch didn't embarrass himself, but there's no helping 49-year-old fat-ass Tyrus. He clearly has bad knees from carrying all that weight, and I don't think his constant struggle to get up after taking a bump was selling. Just an embarrassing match.

The consensus is that Tyrus has the belt so that he can take it on Fox News (apparently he has some kind of spot on Fox News, okay...) and in Billy Corgan's dreams Fox News viewers start watching NWA Power.

Tyrus has been on Fox News for years and years and I still have yet to see a clip of him there, one mainstream news article about it, or anything.  Is Corgan really expecting someone to turn on Power after a long day of shaking their fists along to Hannity?

The last time I watched the NWA was before the pandemic and he was obese and immobile, not a “big man” or a “powerhouse” but someone who was 2 Big Macs away from needing a medical alert bracelet. It almost reminded me of seeing Abdullah the Butcher on an indy circa 2001 where he sliced up his opponent in the aisle because he couldn’t climb the stairs to get into the ring. But I’m sure the 2 years of lockdown did wonders for his physique and conditioning.

Corgan has learned one booking lesson - put your title on someone whom no other organization is going to want to steal from under your nose. See also: Justin Credible.

After an obit for Dave Hebner, an interview we did with Tyrus prior to NWA 74 is our next highest story on SlamWrestling.net for all of 2022.

It will often still make our Top 25 for a week.

There are people who are interested in Tyrus. Now, whether they translate into viewers of the NWA, I extremely doubt it.

It's not an especially revealing interview either:

Tyrus on Twitter: "The the training the focus, the sacrifice… training alone …. Living in the gym not living the the Fridge… film-study being prepared on a daily basis on a high level #Newyorktimesbestseller #1 late night show @Gutfeldfox and now NEW @nwa world heavyweight champion #tyrussmash"

I'm not sure what's funnier, wrestling fans not realising that Tyrus is just trolling them with the training comments, or that 99% of the comments are something like: "Congratulations, I'm not a wrestling fan but I love you on Gutfeld." Is Gutfeld the guy who does the 'comedy' show on Fox with the canned laughter? You know what, if the NWA was actually on cable TV, they might get a handful of people to at least think about watching Power, but no way are they going to subscribe to FITE to watch wrestling for the first time. And even then, it's all for naught, because Power is terrible. Or is Corgan planning to go full MAGA with the NWA, for which he has, ironically, now missed the boat.

I think Gutfeld is a news type of show, on one of the news type of channels.  But whether or not he's trolling, you need to see the pic that the NWA tweeted of him holding the belt up after winning it.  He literally looks like Donkey Kong getting ready to throw the next barrel at Super Mario.  He looks to have gained at least 50lbs since his WWE days, and it looks to be all in his gut and ass and he looked winded just holding the belt over his head.  I literally would have picked anybody else on the roster to give that title to.  You don't want to go with Cardona since his momentum was destroyed along with his biceps tear?  OK, go with somebody that you have on your TV show every week that can actually go 20 minutes in the ring without dying.  Instead you go with a guy that looks like he could collapse at any moment.  Makes zero sense and now I truly believe every penny that Corgan spends on the NWA may as well get flushed down the toilet because he just doesn't get it.
