I'm doing a Texas vacation in 2022 - Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.  I can't remember if the Sportatorium was torn down yet, and if so what's there now.  Is it worth going by to see the site at this point?  Is there a plaque or anything of interest if the building isn't still standing?

It was torn down in 2003 after a fire a couple of years previously.

You could visit the megachurch building in Houston that used the building that used to be The Summit.

A friend has been to Austin and loved it. He even went on a tour of Dazed and Confused Locations. He was in heaven. Lol

The Sportatorium was demolished in 2003.

Somebody is selling relics of the sportatorium, little chips of the foundation. No I never bought one, but the listing shows a picture of the spot now where the building used to be.

This guy's story of visiting the site in 2019 and carrying chunks of foundation on his plane ride home may be accurate but anayone who would pay 17 bucks for it deserves to have their money removed from them.  It should come with a Certificate of Audacity.

Couple of ways to interpret this one...

We've been trying to visit as many baseball parks as we can, planning spring break and summer vacations around this.  Would love to get down there to see either Minute Maid or the Rangers new dome at some point.  Houston and Dallas are a decent car ride away from each other though (maybe 4 hrs?).  Let us know how it goes.  Assuming your going to fly into Dallas and do "the loop" in a rental car.

The site is still vacant. If you go, note that the street is now called Riverfront Blvd. The area's become semi-gentrified, most of the shady massage parlors, etc. are gone.

Well then there's no point in visiting anymore.

That's exactly what we're doing.  Flying into Dallas, 3 1/2 hours to Houston, 2 1/2 to Austin, 1 1/2 to San Antonio, then 4 hours back to Dallas.

Just need to tack on another 18 hours to New Orleans, Shreveport and Tulsa to do the old Mid South Watts’ circuit :)
