After Beej's post about the Figure Four, I was wondering about the Superplex. If memory serves me, I think either Dynamite Kid or Bob Orton Jr was the first to use it, but I'm not sure. Any info?

Dynamite did the top rope version first, but didn't invent the move.

It was either Orton or Scott Irwin/Super Destroyer.

I'm always surprised this move "made it" in wrestling. Great visual for sure but damn too much cooperation from the guy "getting it".

The top rope version took a lot of cooperation but the standard version didn't look to bad.

Orton is universally credited as inventing the move, whether it's true or not.  Dynamite was the first I ever saw go all the way up top, and he was also the first guy I saw use the tombstone piledriver, and it was even called the tombstone long before Undertaker started doing it.  In fact, I think they gave him that move as a finisher because of its name.

Re: Tombstone piledriver; both Angus Campbell and Bob Sweetan were using that move in the early 70s, though not under that name.  They had a run in Central States over the right to be called "The King of the Piledriver" or somesuch since they both used a variety of the move.
