Started in the AWA ~ right? Wondering if he was "mid card", a total nobody or if he got something resembling a push pretty early on.

Complete curtain-jerker. Won some, lost a lot more, mainly against the other trainees from his class, but never got close to mid-card in the AWA.

Geez, look at the names on that roster! I really believe that the early 70's AWA had the greatest collection of talent of any territory in the kayfabe era.

More later including Flair's first tour of Japan and a few results from Texas. Thanks to Ron Witmer for his research and to Joyce Paustian (clawdia on KM) for her Davenport TV results.

How were Larry Hennig and Lord James Blears being used at the time? They're the only veterans I saw on the list that Flair beat. Hennig was by DQ so I assume that it was a case of Hennig just beating him down so badly he got DQ'ed.

I am pretty sure he used only his given name of Richard Fliehr went he first started out. I'll look to others more certain than I am that he never used tha name 'Ric Flair' until after he left the AWA.

Ron (quasi) has the clippings. He can post them if he wants. Most of the time it was Rick Flair. Blears was just in once in a while. Verne had a bought into the Hawaiian promotion run by Ed Francis. Blears was a regular there. Flair's first match in Hawaii was against the veteran Hard Boiled Haggerty. I'll post that later. Flair's TV record was 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. He wasn't a TV jobber. He was just a young undercard performer.
