Regarding these 2 matches from 1963…
03/11 Tulsa, OK Lou Thesz beat Amazing Zuma
03/25 Tulsa, OK Lou Thesz beat Sandor Szabo in a 2 of 3 falls match

Local newspapers report the opponent for both of these shows as a masked wrestler billed as "Mr. Szabo". I have spent a significant portion of the last few months attempting to "unmask" Mr. Szabo, who was a full-timer for McGuirk from early February through March 25th. It CANNOT be Sandor Szabo, as Sandor is in Japan for JWA (technically he wrestles there on the 24th and 26th and has the 25th off, but with the time difference and flight times I assure you it doesn't work; I've done the math).

As for Argentina Zuma, he has no known matches in the U.S. between April 1960 and July 1965 (per wrestlingdata). That is a very large gap for a wrestler of his name value; there is some evidence of him returning to Argentina in 1960, getting married around that time and one of his three children was born in Argentina in 1963.

Mr. Szabo was positioned as a heel and got a huge push, as is evidenced by getting two shots at Thesz for the World title. According to the Tulsa paper, the March 25th match ended when Mr Szabo suffered a broken hand, and it appears the character was "written off" in storyline at that point. My journey to identify Mr. Szabo has taken a great number of twists and turns. We *think* we have it narrowed down to two possibilities, and we've actually spoken to one of the only two men still alive that were in the territory at the time in an attempt to pinpoint who he was.

As for why those matches are credited to Sandor and Zuma, the earliest records I can find listing them as the opponents was a typewritten results sheet for Lou. While I don't know for sure when it would have been made/distributed, it lists results only through 1966 so it's possible that's when it was put together. Certainly we can understand why somebody assumed that a "Mr Szabo" was Sandor, and perhaps the March 11th opponent was written down as "Zabo" and somebody made an assumption that they meant Zuma.

It makes no sense for Argentina Zuma to portray a masked heel wrestler in 1963 for McGuirk, and given that nobody can put him in the U.S. anywhere from mid-60 to mid-65, I ain't buying it. And I've seen no supporting evidence that it was Zuma under the hood. It should also be noted that when Zuma came to the McGuirk territory in 1965, his MSG sellouts (late 59/early 60) were a major selling point in building him up. If it was that noteworthy in 1965, then why wouldn't they have brought him in as himself in 1963?

I'm rambling I know, but I have sadly become OBSESSED with solving this mystery. Of the two possibilities, one of them makes the story mildly interesting and the other makes it potentially FASCINATING.

10/21/51 Dubuque, IA Lou Thesz vs. ??
10/22 Omaha, NE Lou Thesz beat Barney Bernard in a 2 of 3 falls match

I don't think there was a match in Dubuque. There is a mention of Thesz vs Bernard taking place in Omaha in the October 21, 1951 Council Bluffs IA newspaper, the Daily Nonpareil. Omaha & Council Bluffs are 12 miles apart. Dubuque is 5 1/2 hours from Omaha

08/28/40 Ottawa, Ontario Louis Thesz draw Sandy O’Donnell

This is a one fall match, and was a double knock out at 24:41

"Thesz gave O'Donnell a drop kick and both men landed on their heads and were knocked out at the same time. They recovered enough to stagger about the ring, but were unable to continue the bout after 24:41"

It does mention that Thesz is Montreal World Champion, but I do not believe this was a title match
