I went to a show at the Asbury Park Convention Center way back in the late 80's or early 90's and haven't been able to find any information on it. We sat in the front row and all I remember is the main event was between Paul Orndorff and Nikita Koloff. I remember the promoter walked past with the belt and showed it to us and said it was a brand new belt & whoever won would be their first champion. After the show people were yelling at Angelo Poffo who was sitting up in the bleachers. If anyone can find any information on this show I would appreciate it.

This was not UWF since Abrams never ran in NJ. Almost certain it's just an indy fed. I originally though maybe ICW/IWCCW  but I dont think Orndorff or Nikita was ever a champion there.

Wasn't there that Gordon Scozzarri promotion based in Maryland who shelled out huge money for talent and put Orndorff over as something like an AWF heavyweight champ? The story I recall is that Orndorff kept the belt "because he won it"... then I think a few years later Scozzarri passed away. It's something to check, I guess.

This would appear to be the one.  Orndorff ended up wrestling Stan Lane as Nikita was "injured".

There's this over at Wrestling Classics that touches on it.  Touches on it for 8 pagesworth.  Haven't read it all but it has it's entertaining parts to it.

Odd that Muta would remember it as seeing Orndorff vs Nikita if Nikita no-showed, though. Maybe he put in an appearance at ringside?

Maybe he put in an appearance at ringside?Nikita was supposedly there with his arm in a sling.  There may have been 2 scheduled matches between Orndorff and Nikita.  The Asbury Park card may have been the second one with Orndorff already in possession of the belt.

I am amazed that I was compelled to look back at WC for this topic. I stopped posting in 2003 and have only looked there a few times since. Page one was exhaustive, much less another 7 just like it.

Honestly I only remember that it was advertised as Orndorff vs. Nikita, the promoter walked by with the belt & showed it to us, and a bunch of people heckling Angelo Poffo over Randy Savage.

Page 6 of that thread has some YouTube links to clips from the show. I have to say that the camera work is quite professional and looks much better than I thought it would.

Wow quite the interesting read! OFG, does the WC message board have a bad reputation?

Others may have a better answer for you.   I left  the site seemed to be loading something on my computer whenever I went there; some have said there was spyware showing up on their more refined anti-virus.  Basically I couldn't stay there even if I chose to.  I was on there from late 2000-mid 2003 as OFG and a week long run under a socko as Mean Bolo Haggis.  Chief Moderator there gets plenty of negative reviews, but I never had any issue with him.  My personality does clash with the site owner, however.

I had some fun with some limited mod duties there, including "Create A Rumble" which was an add-a-chapter series done in massive Royal rumble style... "Mister Monkey Wrench" which was my attempt to give armchair bookers the kind of headaches and frustration involved in actual promotion...and adding my one paragraph pseudo-vignettes in a thread labeled "What the Golden Greats are Doing Right Now" or something close.   My favorites were Mad Dog Vachon at the DMV, Nikolai Volkoff mailing graduation cards, and Killer Tim Brooks as a slot-car racing enthusiast.     Nowadays I prefer to check in here and on KM researching threads like this one and occasionally adding an "attempt" at levity.
