I thought he was getting shit-canned if the Yanks didn't beat the Indians.

It does seem a litle absurd in light that he was won four championships, but then again the last seven years have been dry.

Its not his fault that they have no decent pitching.

They have plenty of hitting, but no real pitching yet again.

Cashman should be the one to be fired

If George wanted to fire Torre, he would have done it by now.

George is half a vegetable at this point.  When was the last time anyone actually saw or heard from him?  Not press releases, but really him?  Osama Bin Laden gets out more these days, and is healthier.  It's not his call, the kids are in charge now.

Mike hit the nail on the head right there. That was obvious during the series with The Tribe.

Go Tribe!!

Mattingley apparently wants no part of managing the yanks right now, so with him out of the picture I would expect the decision to be delayed a bit longer.

His agent denies that  lol

Honestly, I think Torre should stay, and the GM should go.  And if the same thing happens again next year, then he should be fired

Of course its not Torre's fault that A-Rod puts up monster numbers in the regular season, and then becomes a meek little boy afraid of a fastball in the post season.

What's the point in making a decision today or next week vs a month from now?

You need time to get the replacement you want obviously.  A few could be snatched up by next month.

Tim Kerchician(sp?), you know the ESPN baseball guy that isn't a president of Red Sox nation, said something very smart last night while I was listening, and he said "that the Yankees need to hire someone who will be able to withstand the pressure of that market, and sadly, Mattingly isn't capable of it, neither is Girardi, nor LaRussa".  And right nowm, those are the top 3 picks for the Yanks right now.

Torre seems to be able to handle the pressure, and I actually agree with him, the other 3 probably won't be able to handle the pressure

Of course, I would love to see a Dennis Green level meltdown from LaRussa on TV  :)

No word on Torre yet but it appears that Ron Guidry will not be back as pitching coach. His reported replacement....Dave Eiland. LAF,HBF and other long time Yankee fans should appreciate this.

Dave Eiland replacing Ron Guidry.  That just doesn't sound right.

This cannot be good.  Dave Eiland was the "perenial prospect" at AAA that was just horrible in the pros.  What he knows about pitching compared to Guidry?  I can't imagine much.

I forgot to link the story but it says he was the one who worked with Joba, Hughes and Kennedy in the minors.

Here is the link:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3067357

The only positive thing I remember about Eiland was his debut when he pitched a no hitter for like 8 innings. It was all downhill from there.
