I think its easier. If a rb wants to do it in 10 seasons he has to average only 63 ydd a game. If he wants to do it in 8 seasons its only 78 yards a game

That article is horrible. The writer contradicts himself to the point that I don't really know if he thinks there absolutely will be a rusher to break 10k or if it's a virtual impossibility. Grantland's gone so far downhill since Simmons got shitcanned, it's not even funny.
And to answer the original question, there's probably at least 3 or 4 that'll break the 10k mark within the next few years.

I agree with Ben based on the amount of games and also with you DFG. There's no shortage of guys who could break 10K yards. Now given the trend towards passing and less towards RB's, it's becoming likely that nobody will ever break Emmitt's career yards mark. I feel that might be an unattainable goal at this point.

The most egregious omission from this article is that it fails to mention that the decade of the 2000's saw an unusual amount of running backs break the 10,000 yard mark.  10,000 yards rushing used to be a lofty goal that was infrequently reached prior to the 2000's.  For whatever reason, that decade saw a huge spike in the number of players that broke the mark.

To date, there's 29 players with more than 10k rushing yards.  Here's a decade-by-decade breakdown of the number of players to break it during that decade:
1960's:  1 (Jim Brown)
1970's:  1 (O.J. Simpson)
1980's:  5 (Harris, Payton, Riggins, Dorsett, Dickerson)
1990's:  5 (Ottis Anderson, Allen, Sanders, Smith, Thurman Thomas)
2000's: 12 (Watters, Bettis, Martin, Faulk, George, Dillon, James, Barber, Tomlinson, Fred Taylor, Dunn, Jamal Lewis)
2010's:  5 (Thomas Jones?!?, Ricky Williams, Steven Jackson, Frank Gore, Adrian Peterson)

Considering there's probably 3-7 backs that will break 10k by the end of this decade (Lynch, Forte, Jamal Charles, McCoy, maybe Arian Foster, maybe DeMarco Murray, maybe Alfred Morris) the 2010's will still have an unusually high amount of players breaking that mark.

On a side note, Thomas Jones?  Really?  WTF, I can't remember anything that guy did that would've made me say that he was one of the guys that broke the 10k plateau.  Kinda makes you wonder if 10k really is that significant.
