Thought you were going to tell me Berman died from a lard and bacon induced heart attack, so this is actually kind of a let down.

For the love of God, please don't trot him out for an annual appearance at the Home Run Derby! If I gotta hear "Back, Back, Back..." out of his pie hole one more time...

Uh oh - Berman's agent apparently just tweeted this:

" Chris is NOT retiring. Loves what he's doing too much and is too young to hang 'em up. "

See, it's like a said above...you've got to kill the guy if you want to be rid of him.

He's really ruined that event for me.  I just can't deal with him anymore.

Berman was great in the '80s into the early '90s but has been a parody of himself for almost 25 years now.

ESPN is a bunch of twats, period. Berman is unwatchable but no worse than the other guys they've had and lost.  I wish it would go under.

I don't know the exact years, but I enjoyed him and Tom Jackson on "NFL Primetime". That was probably the best highlight show ever, better than Sportscenter ever was, and it really solidified my love of football at a time when I was hardcore into it.

Early to mid 90's was my favorite period of prime time but ESPN was really running on all cylinders at that point in my mind. It was still current and a little cutting edge.

I agree, I'm not sure of the exact years, but that Primetime summary show was great on Sunday evenings with the highlights of each game.

As far as the back, back, back,....goes, it was OK for awhile, but it got old eventually.

NFL Primetime was on from the late 1980s through the 2005 season. When NBC acquired the rights to Sunday Night Football, it also gained the rights to the highlights that made up Primetime. Despite appeals and efforts by Chris Berman, there was no way around this and Football Night In America assumed the role formerly played by NFL Primetime effective the 2006 season. Berman and TJ have hosted Primetime styled highlights during the late SportsCenter on Sunday nights as The Blitz, but it just isn't the same.
