Matt Kenseth was so consistent that NASCAR changed their entire points system to this incredibly stupid "playoff system" they use today. Dale Earnhardt also changed NASCAR by his death causing the HANS device to be mandatory for all drivers, ehich gad certainly saved lives..

To the other end of this idea, Clint Malarchuk getting his throat slashed by an errant skate blade in the 80’s should have changed goaltending safety and brought in mandatory neck protection (a collar to protect against skate cuts). It didn’t, and to this day that accident is preparing to repeat itself, especially with the speed of skaters increasing dramatically in the last few decades. It boggles my mind that goalies play without neck protection…I mean, almost all of them. A shot in the Adam’s apple (preventable by the hanging neck protection attaching to the mask) or a skate to the throat (preventable by a simple protective collar) will kill one of them, it’s only a matter of time. Then the hand wringing will finally make those things mandatory. So this one if I guess for the change in the sport that will happen someday soon…too bad someone will have to die to make it happen.
