I am just about caught up on my Netflix movie list, so I am looking for some TV recommendations. Usually willing to give anything a chance..........once.

Any suggestions?

Tell us the last few series you enjoyed, so I can get a bead on the sort of thing you might like, then I'll fire out a few suggestions.

Get all the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" seasons, if you want some great comedy...for drama, if you've never seen "Breaking Bad", GET IT...also, my wife and I got hooked on "Burn Notice" on USA Network, so I got the first season from Netflix to catch up..good stuff.

I like a few series that are out now. Here are some of them

Chuck
Bones
House
NCIS
Big Bang Theory
Family Guy
Psych
Mentalist
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Some of my all-time favorites are

Scrubs
Mash
Cheers
Quincy
Wkrp

That's a sampling, but I'm pretty open to any suggestions.

"The Wire" is the best cop drama in the history of TV and most people haven't seen it.  Start there and get all 5 seasons.  Then move on to "Rome", it's only 2 seasons, more like a really long mini-series than anything else, but it's phenomenal.

"Lost" is about as good as it gets for network TV and it's one of the rare series that jumped back over the shark because it kinda got sucky in the middle but then rebounded big time.

For cable comedies I'll second "Sunny in Philly" (although in later seasons it's really hit or miss and the misses are unwatchable) and add "Curb Your Enthusiasm".

I have heard good things about the Wire, so I will definitely check that out.

I think Curb Your Enthusiasm is on my Queue somewhere, but I haven't moved it up yet. I'll check that out too.

Thanks!

"Monk" And "Psyche" on USA are really fun shows too.  "Psyche" is awesome for anyone who loves obscure '80s pop culture references and they're also big wrestling fans.  You'll definitely get the odd Roddy Piper or Junkyard Dog comment a few times a year.

I was just about to rage about nobody putting Monk over when I got to this post. Monk is a real good show and I also enjoy Curb Your Enthusiam as well. Start with these two and you'll be pleased.

The Shield is just awesome, all 7 seasons are out now

The Office is pretty good, season 1 is pretty spotty but they really took off in season 2 and have kept going for the most part

Newsradio is a favorite of mine, especially the first 4 seasons with Phil Hartman... Jon Lovitz took over in season 5 after Hartman's death and gave it a try but it never clicked, IMO.

If you like behind the scenes/documentary style series, the Jon Faveru series Dinner for Five is a great view... it's just Jon and 4 guests having dinner and shooting the shit about the movie business. Really good, really funny stuff most of the time, lots of behind the scenes stuff as well.

I actually started watching Burn Notice a few ep's in because it was at the back end of my RAW tivo's, and it is a good episode, the writers at least give it crediblillity because when they do something mcGyver like, the at least explain why and how it can be done or gotten away with, good show.

NCIS is solid also if you havent watched it.

I second the pick of Dexter, but it's sort of got that Sopranos effect that people expect bloody violence every week and don't have the patience for the story and plot kind of stuff.
