So if you want to bitch about an “un-Canadian mindset”, how about also taking a look at the very American mindset of corporate greed. I'm not a fan of corporate greed but the profits currently enjoyed by oil companies aren't because they've insidiously driven up the price of their product. They're more a result of ideologically driven decisions by our rulers, e.g. killing the Keystone Pipeline, belief in the green energy fairy, deliberate antagonism of Russia, etc. Just as Raditch can't help making money, neither can they.

I just laugh when people who believe in “Capitalism” get mad when capitalism does its thing.

I usually laugh when people see how much of the per gallon price is made up of government taxes and fees. No question big oil makes business moves to make money but they have more in play than just gallons hitting the street. Majors like Exxon, Motiva, Chevron etc etc etc have big money tied up in exploration and joint ventures in other countries. Stopping exploration and shifting gears to something with a better ROI when politics arent in there favor could also produce a positive bump to the bottom line but has nothing to do with the price at the pump. There are a lot of local factors that contribute to the pump price that big oil has nothing to do with nor do they reap the benefits from.

I know how taxes are a major part of gas prices. Just think how much worse our shitty roads would be if we weren’t paying them. This is a demand issue at work and in my opinion, the folks who felt the sting a couple of years back when people weren’t driving as much are now pricing gas at the tipping point. They are going to keep prices high as long as they can to make as much money as possible. It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who believes in mostly free markets.

At this point Biden needs to either give these companies a reason to drill or convince OPEC to increase production. I don't blame these companies for looking out for themselves (paying down debt, buying back stock) to a degree when the future of their industry is so cloudy. Biden invoking the defense production act for solar panels recently likely didn't encourage any member of the oil industry to want to give money away.

Because the price of gas is fluctuating so often, a mistake was bound to happen. Somewhere in California, a gas station was trying to raise the price of gas to $6.99, but made a mistake and programmed the pump at .69 cents. For 3 hours, the error stood and people who noticed the mistake were calling friends and family to take advantage until there was a line down the street. I’m sure someone was fired and that gas station got wrecked, so no one really suffers except a minimum wage employee and a small business owner.

Price down at least 70 cents from its peak here in DFW area. In some place a dollar.

On the rez, however, it's dropped about 50 cents. It's typical for their prices to drop much quicker than the paleface gas as the price of crude decreases. We're averaging about 4.75 in town and 4.17 on the rez.
