I received a new wrestling book by Scott Romer and John Cosper this week, WHEN IT WAS - My Life On Both Sides Of The Camera. The book has lots of photos with wrestlers, boxers, celebrities, and politicians. My favorite part of the book is stories by a then fellow young photographer David McLane. Received a Kindle as a gift so I have started reading much more than before. Gave me something better to do when sports were on hiatus: Open - the Andre Agassi autobiography Dream Team: How Michael, Magic, Larry, Charles, and the Greatest Team of All Time Conquered the World and Changed the Game of Basketball Forever The Jesse Stone novel series by Robert B. Parker - I stumbled across a Jesse Stone TV movie starring Tom Selleck that was airing on the Hallmark Channel and was hooked. The Spenser novel series also written by Robert B. Parker. I was a fan of the "Spenser for Hire" TV series that starred Robert Urich and Avery Brooks. Found out that the show was based on this series of books. A number of books written by Dallas L. Barnes. A number of Barnes' books were adapted into episodes of the TV show "Hunter"

Do you find the books a little simplistic in terms of the writing style? They are fairly quick reads but to me are no where near as "fleshed out" as the books of Michael Connelly "Harry Bosch" or Jeffrey Deaver "Lincoln Rhyme " to name a couple in sort of the same genre? Nothing wrong with books you can breeze through in a few hours but with Parker I feel I can really be doing a couple other things while I'm reading and won't be distracted whereas most of the time I like relative quiet while I'm reading or some low easy listening background music.

I think Parker's simplistic reading style makes it easier for me to stay engage in his books. Another thing that helps is that as I read the book, I can convert the book into a TV episode since I am familiar with the main characters from television (Jesse Stone = Tom Selleck, Spenser = Robert Urich, Hawk = Avery Brooks, etc). I am probably strange in that I will seek out books based upon TV shows / movies since it helps me to better picture the characters. I also like to compare the book to the TV show / movie and find any differences between them. I am not familiar with the other authors that you mentioned but I will probably seek out their books to read while I am waiting for the other Parker books to become available at the library or through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited.

James Patterson's "NYPD Red" series. I just finished the first book in the series and it was pretty good. Took about 7-8 hours or so to complete. Patterson must do nothing but write 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. The guy writes a number of children's book series ("Dog Diaries", "Treasure Hunters", "I Funny", "Middle School" plus many more), young adult series ("Maximum Ride", "Daniel X", plus more), and adult titles as well. Our local library has a lot of James Patterson e-books as well as a lot of Robert B Parker e-books available so they have been 2 of my favorite authors to read during the pandemic. Thanks to our Kindles, my family has been able to simply download the e-books from the library's Overdrive account instead of needing to go to the library in person.

He has approximately 147 works on his resume. Many over the last little while have been co- authored with a variety of authors. IMO anyways the more he cranks out in a short space of time the quality seems to suffer. The Alex Cross novels are a very good series to read, and I've enjoyed The Women's Murder Club and too a lesser extent the Michael Bennett series. I have yet to read the novel he co-authored with former POTUS Bill Clinton. If you feel NYPD Red is worthwhile I will check it out. I have strayed away from him for awhile as I find him "too" prolific" a writer. Even Stephen King takes a year between books. And I tend to prefer more detailed writing such as King's. With Patterson, on a dreary fall day or downright miserable winter day you can certainly polish off any one of his novels in a day.

On the pro wrestling front I received the Buddy Rogers book from Scott Teal's Crowbar Press written by Tim Hornbaker. It looks great. http://www.crowbarpress.com/cbp-books/61-br.html On the lighter side, I ordered a bio from Greg Oliver on comedian Billy Van. I knew Billy from the comedy variety shows in the 1970's. http://www.oliverbooks.ca/the-billy-van-story.html

Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King. Rhonda Rousey reference on page 165. "Yep, yep, heard it on my scanner. Hard to believe a woman could've killed those men and torn up that trailerlike she did, but the women are getting stronger, that's my opinion. Stronger and stronger. Just look at that Ronda Rousey for instance. Lila had no idea was, either. ............... Found the 700 pages a little ponderous to read to be honest and I generally have no problem with long novels. Dad adding his name to a book that was likely mostly Owen's concept. I found the ending sort of a letdown like they didn't know where to go with the story at some point. Sort of like a WWE storyline.

"Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande Gawande is a surgeon and a New York Times best-selling author who also writes articles for The New Yorker. In this book, Gawande discusses end of life issues that many people avoid such as assisted living / nursing homes, terminal illness, hospice, assisted suicide, and end of life treatment goals. While this all probably sounds pretty morbid to most people, Gawande does a great job with making the topics interesting and provides patient stories to illustrate the points. A family friend (late 40s) recently had a stroke and is now seemingly "circling the drain" as his physical and mental health rapidly deteriorate. Since he is not of sound mind, he is unable to make his own healthcare decisions. His wife is frantic because she doesn't know what to tell the doctors or know what her husband would want to have done (such as Do Not Resuscitate, No heroic measures, No ventilator, No antibiotics, No IV or tube feeding, etc). My wife and I (like many other married couples) have been putting off getting our wills done. My friend's experience has now made this a much higher priority for us. We also should have the hard discussions about end of life decisions and get a living will drawn up. This book has brought up a number of issues that I hadn't considered before.

Let me know how that Epic book is. I'm looking to add to my collection. Almost a year ago tonight (Jan 29, 2020 (just happened to look at receipt I saved in one of the books)) I took a drive to an Ollie's about an hour away, and they had about a dozen different Marvel Star Wars Epic collections, among other books. I've spent the last year going through that pile, and I'm down to just a couple of things left. The Star Wars ones I picked up generally are the old Dark Horse stories, but it also included a volume of the original Marvel Star Wars series. All that said, I love the way the books are put together and wouldn't mind diving into some of the core characters in the Marvel Universe. No idea where to start though.
