My little dude woke up with a cough yesterday, had him checked out today and it turns out he has a bit of pneumonia on one side. That's no fun for an adult but especially so for a 6 month old. The doctor was complementing me for being so calm since most new parents freak out when they get this kind of news. I didn't have the heart to tell her I was using all my strength to not poop my pants while she was telling me this.

All in all it makes me want to call my mom and thank her for not letting me die as an infant.

I've never worked on a ped unit, but have friends who work at the children's hospital here in town. It's a pretty consistent consensus that dealing with crazy ass parents is 100x worse than dealing with the sick kids as patients. So it's good you didn't freak out, because staff hates crazy ass family to deal with.

I can understand why, I never knew x-raying an infant required placing them in a device that makes them look like a bonsai kitten.

The only time I ever freaked was when my they had to do a spinal on my 1 Month old Daughter.  I did not go off but I had to leave the room.  It was a necessary evil as it turns out she was at the beginning stages of viral meningitis.  I am glad we caught that when we did.

I only freaked out once, and that was when it was my first kid and he had fallen down the stairs.

Now when a kid gets injured or hurt, I simply pack em into the car and drive to the hospital.

Two worst set of family members I've dealt with (adhering of course to stereotypes) - African American and Southern Conservative.

Best groups - Jews and Beaners.

I dont take kids to the Dr. As a rule, we just pray when the evil one puts a toad in the lung of our infants.

Well, my beaner/kike wife is one of those people that knows more than the Drs because she reads alot and uses Google. The staff always adores her.

Why is she married to you then and not Chernau? That aside, one of the good thing about the beaners is that a lot speak middling English at best. So even if they are yelling at you, you can't understand, and just nod and walk away.

If she were, he'd be pissier and I'd be happier.

Well it took nearly two years of fertility treatments and a miscarriage before it finally happened, if that makes it easier for you to believe.

I hope your little dude gets better soon...pneumonia is no joke, no matter what the age of the person who gets it.

Good luck sek.  I've had the misfortunate of having to go to the emergency room only one time, and it was filled with almost exclusively newborns and their panicked parents.  Just a madhouse.  I can't imagine having to go through that with a baby all the time.

My wife is a first time parent and a stay at home Mom.  She's also a science junkie, so sometimes I have to intervene whenever the smallest thing happens with our daughter and be the voice of reason and calming.

I raised my son from a year old up until two years ago on my own as my first wife wasn't around much after we divorced.  The only freak out I've ever had was about 3 years ago when he swallowed a quarter and it was lodged in his esophagus.

Just curious Sek, what causes pneumonia in a small child?  Is he in daycare or something and exposed to other sick kids?
