Benlen and others from the great Bay area: I'm heading out there with my daughter to look at a school and wanted to know recommendations on what to see in SF these days(I have one day)?  I figure the Fisherman's wharf area, Chinatown and the streetcar are obvious (and things I did 20 years when I was last there). Maybe Alcatraz or Point Reyes Park if there's some time left.

Any specific chinese restaurant while in Chinatown that kicks ass now?  I spent a lot of time in Berkeley in 1996 since I had family in El Cirrito so I don't know that section very well.

Thanks in advance,
Eric

Haight-Ashbury still has its charms. I'm sure nothing like it once was, but the streets still reek of pot and there are some interesting characters and shops that haven't been priced out yet.

Good idea.

I went right after Amy Winehouse died (like maybe a few days after) and they had added her shrine along the same row as Hendrix, Joplin, Garcia, Cobain, etc.  There were lots of cool stuff there, hopefully it's all still there.

Check out the area around AT&T Park...if not for a game, just for fun. Couple good little eateries around there.

Also have heard that the Disney museum is excellent

With one day I think you're better off sticking around Fisherman's Wharf. A T & T Park is about a three mile walk from there. You can take a Helicopter ride and fly over Alcatraz or take the Ferry from there if you wanna visit. Plenty of museums on the wharf. I can't recommend a restaurant because they all taste the same to me. Maybe a hole in the wall eatery in Chinatown is the place you want to find.

Drive down Lombard Street too.  Nothing I would do again but cool to say you did it once.  Nice view from the top too.

The Walt Disney Family Museum is fantastic and is the best thing I ever saw in SF.  Its in the Presidio, and from one of the main windows has the best indoor view of the Golden Gate Bridge that there is.

Kind of odd to hear that Disney's museum is in SF given that they basically built Orlando and Anaheim.  Anybody know why?

The museum is something the Disney family put together and isn't formally connected to the entertainment company. It's pretty cool and is on the Presidio, which likely explains the choice of San Francisco. Considerable space was available in the heart of a metro area with great tourist appeal at what was likely a fairly reasonable cost since the former military base was being repurposed and was looking for anchors.
