Yesterday at Tompkins Square Park. Have no idea how this was allowed or how anyone found out about it. I’ve been on the look-out for shows and didn’t hear anything.

The CDC is advising that fully vaccinated people can now go outside without a mask. What I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is what about fully vaccinated people who have children that are unvaccinated?

The vaccination only prevents the vaccinated person from getting seriously ill / dying. The vaccinated person can still contract COVID and then bring it home to his family - including the children who haven't been vaccinated since no vaccine is available for people under 16 years of age. Even though we have been vaccinated, my wife and I have still been masking up, social distancing, etc because we don't want to get COVID and infect our kid. Is this not a worry anymore?

So while casually walking down the street, how do they know if I'm vaccinated or not? Do un-vaxed people wear a yellow star that says Juden?

There's a "Blues Q's" photoshop in there someplace, but I don't have the time or ambition to make it...

When have unvaccinated people not been able to go outside without a mask?  I haven't worn a mask outside in a year.  They're giving their blessing to something they never had any control over, so now some people will do it just because they were told they could.  But they could never stop you before.

Here in Maryland (especially Baltimore City), we have had mask mandates for both indoors and outdoors regardless of if you were vaccinated or not. I think those mandates are being revised today after the new guidance from the CDC.

My point is even if a person is vaccinated, they could still catch COVID and pass it on to someone else. I think that some restrictions are being removed too quickly given that not everyone who wants to be vaccinated has received the vaccine. Given the lack of information about MIS-c and other COVID-related maladies in children and the lack of an available vaccine for kids, I am concerned.

What concerns me even more though is even though nearly everyone in the state who wants a vaccine has gotten one (except children)...
- about 1,000 new COVID cases are reported here per day
- hospitalizations continue to increase by about 20 per day
- 20 people die each day from COVID

Is "20 COVID deaths per day in Maryland" going to be considered the new normal? It sure seems so as restrictions are removed and guidelines are loosened.

An interesting question. Will the number ever be 'zero' over the course of a week over the next year or two? If not, then there's a number everyone is okay with.

Its no different than driving a car. People die in car accidents everyday. But millions drive. They take proper precautions and accept the risk.

There are still a handful of people who die of bubonic plague. So doubtful we’ll ever get to zero.

We're getting into that uncomfortable territory now with my job where there's talk of bringing everyone back to the office full-time. For the past year, it's been hinted, but nothing officially stated, that eventually there would be a permanent tele-commuting policy for us, perhaps even a hybrid model where we could do 3/2 or 2/3, or something to that affect. Almost 15 months into this, there's now belly-aching from the small group of people that have had to go in everyday that it's not fair that other groups have been able to stay home, while there's now a realization also that other people have basically fucked around for the past year and taken advantage of the setup. So, people like me who have worked pretty hard at home to prove this could work...we're looking like fools now. We'll see how this all pans out. I've enjoyed saving two hours a day on commuting, all of the transportation/parking associated costs, not dealing with public trans at all, eating healthy at home, and generally less stress, along with less costs/hassle with child care. If that all gets pulled out from under us immediately, I'm going to be disappointed to put it mildly. We'll see.

DeBlasio keeps saying that NYC will be fully re-opened on July 1 and that seems like a target for our office re-opening at at least half capacity. Right now only a handful of people go in and for the life of me I have no idea why. I really never want to go back. If this past year has taught us anything, it’s that most people don’t need to ever commute again. I certainly don’t. There’s not a single thing that I need to do at the office that I can’t do at home. Now that we’ve fully switched to an electronic signature system, you never even have to print and get a real signature on anything again, something you’d think would’ve been eliminated years ago.

Protest commuting on the grounds of climate change. Its time for companies to reimagine commuting and what an office is.

Exactly.  Those kinds of tactics are the most likely to meet with success these days.  It's like white people who don't want the vaccine.  The best argument they can make is, "I would be exercising my privilege by getting the vaccine.  I insist on waiting until every last person of color has had their shot."  Make the woke live up to their ideals.
