Can’t remember the first but I actually had the Wrestling Album on vinyl. I bet that would be worth something today.

I went through my parents’ record collection many years ago and it was mostly god-awful shit like Harry Mancini and Lee Greenwood, but there’s we’re some gems including The Beatles’ “White Album”, the Stones’ “High Tide and Green Grass”, and Hendrix’s “Axis: Bold as Love” that we sold on eBay for some decent coin.

"I Could Be Happy" by Altered Images. The big Christmas present in 1981 was a record player for me and my brother. So in Chrimbo aftermath I used my gift vouchers to get meself some vinyl. And that was the first one.

Christmas 1966. Mom and Pops bought me a brand new record player and the New Vaudeville Bands first album Winchester Cathedral. I wasn't pleased. A couple of months later I had cobbled together some nickels and dimes and went out and bought something I would enjoy. The Beatles Capital album The Early Beatles found its way to my turntable and I wore the grooves out on that one. It wouldn't be until five years later that I bought my first "heavy" record. ABC-TV had a special that was life changing for me. They did a two part special on 1974's California Jam. I saw Blackmore and I was beyond blown away. I went out that weekend and bought Deep Purple's Burn album. I never looked back.

I no longer care about being an audiophile. I've never bought a vinyl album during this resurrection of vinyl thats been going on for at least the last ten years. I just add lo-fi YouTube versions on a growing playlist and that keeps me happy.

I got KISS Double Platinum as a gift, so that was probably my first album, but my parents had a great record collection from the 60s & 70s, so I listened to that.

If we are counting 45s it may have been Tall People, a "rebuttal" to Randy Newman's Short People. I think it was sung by Tim Conway and others. If not that it was Cars by Gary Neuman.

First 45 = The theme song to "Dukes of Hazzard" by Waylon Jennings
First album = Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

I also played a lot of Bill Cosby comedy albums that my father gave to me.

of a Rolling Stones fan at the time.

A 45 that I loved as a wee lad (like 3 or 4) was "Blue's Theme" by Davey Allan and the Arrows. That and "Basketball Jones" by Cheech & Chong. They weren't given to me as gifts, but I basically commandeered and took them over. They weren't kept with my parents' records, they were always in my toybox.

I was into tapes, mostly. So I didn't buy my first vinyl, with my own money, until the fall of 1986. It was either "Triumph- the Sport of Kings" or "Yngwie Malmsteen- Trilogy".
