This guy ate 'five guys menu' in only an hour and set a new record

Kyle Gibson, 22, ate an entire 'five guys menu' in 61 minutes while raising money for a local food bank. He is from Sunderland and has the honor of holding the top spot in the British Eating League. Since Kyle is already such a good eater, he decided to put his skills to good use to raise money for a local food bank.

Kyle said: "The challenge was to eat the entire menu at Five Guys and I did it. It took me just under 61 minutes and it was not easy. It was a bit of a struggle but I managed to get through it."

Kyle managed to eat eight burgers, four hot dogs, two portions of fries, two veggie sandwiches, a grilled cheese sandwich, a BLT, two milkshakes, and a couple of refill drinks.

Yes, this all was eaten by Kyle in only an hour which is incredible.

So Five Guys has made its way across the pond...

Can any of the British posters here tell us how these things work?  Do American imports always gain a toe hold in London first and then spread out to the rest of the country?  Would Manchester be the logical next step in their growth?  Birmingham?  If this guy's all the way up in Sunderland, I would expect that, for example, Five Guys is now fairly well established across the whole of the nation.  True?

Tends to be London first and then a spread. But there are not that many US franchises that are big here. Ronnie Macs and Subway being the obvious ones. Five Guys spread to big cities quickly but it's still something of a luxury purchase and it has things like Gourmet Burger Kitchen with which to compete.

Some others have never taken off. Wendys for instance was London only and even that one vanished for a while. We've never had e.g. Taco Bell and I think Arbys and Steak & Shake are London only.

I've eaten at Five Guys 3 times and felt queasy afterwards all 3 times, only eating 1 burger. I can't even imagine. Their food is disgusting. Taste-wise it's OK, but it definitely leaves you in worse shape than when you went in.

I like their burgers (although I haven't had one in a few years since the location in our town closed). Problem was, they would fill the entire bag with fries, and it takes a lot of self-discipline not to lose track and eat the entire bag). We'd usually split that order of fries between 3-4 people. All that said, reading what the kid ate in 61 minutes makes me ill. Yuck.

My wife and I always got the small burgers and then split the small fry & even then it's a lot of food.

There's been a couple times I've glanced at the roster of threads and seen "22 Year Old Eats Five Guys". Makes me think of Margaret Trudeau and The Rolling Stones.

Ronnie Macs? I think you mean Mickey D's! ;)

There are loads of US eatery franchises in the UK. Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, TGI Fridays, Starbucks... No IHOP, though. I'd love a pancake house franchise here.

Maybe we'd have more if we didn't have the abomination that is Gregg's.

Burger King is British, isn't it? Part of Diageo. Or was anyway.
