There's trouble in Margaritaville.

Parrot Heads, some of whom paid more than $10,000 for a pod of four seats to the Jimmy Buffett and Coral Reefer Friends tour kick-off at the Pavilion at Old School Square in downtown Delray Beach, Florida just threw their money away, according to venue organizers.

Turns out, to get in the front gate on show night, your identification must match the name you provided at the time of purchase, said Carli Brinkman, public relations specialist with Old School Square. And tickets are non-transferable.

“It’s horrifying,” she said.

Bottom line: If you bought your tickets through a reseller, you are out of luck, Brinkman said.

"We are obviously warning people that is not going to work," she said, adding that the venue is equally angered over the situation.

Tickets sold out

Tickets went on sale for the May 13, 14, 17 and 18 shows on Monday at 10 a.m. and were sold out in the first minute. Hours later, tickets popped up online through sites such as Vivid Tickets and Ticketsonsale.com, neither of which responded to requests for comment from The Palm Beach Post, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Brinkman said she has no idea how those resellers got their hands on so many tickets, and that the venue did not have agreements with any company except Eventbrite.

Customers were limited to one pod of tickets for one night only specifically to ensure as many fans as possible had access to tickets, she said.

“Really, the goal was to make this affordable for as many people as possible,” she said.

But that is not what happened.

Parrot Heads, Jimmy Buffett fans are not happy“The cheapest pod of four seats was $3,889 for obstructed views,” said Diane Catalano of Boynton Beach, who got shut out Monday morning. “And the front was like $10,780.”

Catalano, along with two friends, had their fingers on the button to buy tickets at 9:55 a.m., she said. While Catalano has seen Buffett more than six times, she said, this would have been the first trip around the sun for her boyfriend and the other couple that made up their pod of four.

“I was very angry to the point I would never buy a ticket through Vivid Seats again,” she said. “I don’t know how they did it. A connection, an algorithm? I don’t know how they got all these tickets.”

Catalano was not the only Parrot Head whose feathers got ruffled. Social media was abuzz with similar complaints. And it's not the first time this has happened with these two resellers.

According to the Better Business Bureau, Vivid Seats, out of Chicago, rates only one out of five stars. There were 1,643 complaints lodged against the company in the past year, and 2,239 in the past three years.

Ticketsonsale.com, a website operated by Ryadd, Inc., also rated one out of five stars with the Better Business Bureau. Only two weeks ago on April 13, it was announced the company paid $183,450.67 as a result of a lawsuit to resolve claims of “deceptive trade practices.”

Old School Square is not the only venue refusing to honor tickets from Vivid Seats or other resellers. Laurel Cove Music Festival on April 14 announced it would not honor resold tickets to its summer music festival, saying simply on its Facebook page, "Scalpers aren't cool."

It, unfortunately, spells bad news for some Buffett fans, Brinkman said.
“Every single person that comes has to show must show a ticket against a valid ID that shows the same name,” she said. “And you cannot change the name once it’s purchased.”

Brinkman said the venue has beefed up security to address any issues that might arise on show night because of scalped or resold tickets.

“It’s a pretty foolproof process to make sure somebody that bought something scalped can’t get in,” she said. “I feel pretty bad for people that bought those.”

Catalano is glad not to be one of them. She said she is bummed she didn’t get tickets legitimately, but she is grateful she didn’t get ripped off by resellers.

And she doesn’t think Buffett would be too happy to hear there were “fins” out there looking to make bait out of his fans.

“I really believe that if Jimmy Buffett himself knew what happened, he would be quite disturbed by it,” she said. “Absolutely not paradise, he would say.”

I don't get this. Re-sellers have been around forever and I dare say that most people buy from them. Buffett is a hot ticket only for Buffett fans. He probably has the same people at every show depending on what city it is. This is a terrible precedent.

Most people have to buy from them since the average guy can't get good tickets directly from the venue, Ticketmaster, etc. since the resellers bought them all up. Events are considered as sell outs even though many seats in the venue are empty since nobody bought the tickets from the reseller.

It sucks that the customer ended up getting screwed in the deal. I wish there was a means to eliminate the resellers from the market so that the average guy can get tickets at the "retail price" instead of the inflated reseller prices.

Somewhere, young Eric Cartman is laughing his ass off at this.

Saw Buffett in concert in St. Louis back in '93 while I was in college. Never in my life have I seen middle-aged people so out-of-their-mind drunk. Not happy drunk, loud drunk, or angry drunk. Like, I'm obliterated, so I'm going to go stand next to an empty port-a-potty, pull my pants down and piss on myself even though nobody's in the port-a-potty three feet away. It takes a lot of shitty booze to get someone to that point without drugs. That's my Buffett story.

Back in 2011 I went down to Key West. My wife was working at the hospital down there for the week, and back then I had a companion pass for Southwest so I could fly on any flight she was on for free. We flew to Ft Lauderdale and did the drive to Key West. We stayed at the Casa Marina hotel, which as the time was hosting a Jimmy Buffett convention/concert. We go to check in and while my wife is taking care of that I go to take a piss. Some guy tries to block me from going down a certain hallway to the shitter saying I need to show him my room card. I look at the guy, dressed in his best Blue Thunder Hawaiian Shirt and ask if he works for the hotel. Of course he doesn't, he's just some guy trying to keep out hanger ons from crashing the convention. I tell him to fuck off and start going towards the bathroom. He then goes to get hotel security. By the time I come out there he is pointing me out to a hotel worker. Who then comes over to me to question if I"m supposed to be there. I tell the guy my wife is checking in, and we go up to the front desk, where he apologizes and tries to excuse the buffett dipshit. But like Blazer said, it was a bunch of fat drunk 50-60 year olds being obnoxious with their guts hanging out. The men were dicks as well.

One of the worst?  By no measure are they one of the worst.   Do you get your news from the dumpster behind CNN, the one where they toss the drafts of stories that even they realize are laughable?

According to the CDC they have had the 3rd most cases and 3rd most deaths.  That sounds like one of the worst.

Just for fun I used links from Fox News and OAN just as a comparison.  There Florida ranked 2nd in Death and 5th in cases.  Still one of the worst.
The second site had Florida at 3rd in death and 3rd in death.  I'd call that one of the worst.
My I asked my Qanon friend and she said they were the 8th highest state according to the real numbers.  Still one of the worst.

So, what does your research say?  A nice graph would help too.  I prefer a horizontal bar graph in color.

Ok.I've been to Florida for a total of Five Weeks since October 1.  It all depends on where you go and how you handle yourself.  Just because the virus is there doesn't mean you'll get it if you do things correctly.  Maybe I was lucky, but you would figure the odds would be against me.  Hot, cold, rain, wind, I was in all of it down there.  I was in Orange County, and Osceola County.  While outdoors was pretty much maskless in the general population, any store or restaurant that you walked into demanded a mask.  All of the theme parks demanded masks.  All Uber and Lyft cars demanded a mask.  If you didn't want to wear a mask, you couldn't go inside anyplace and you would've stood outside, maskless, because you are too much of an asshole to follow simple rules because you think masks are politically driven.  I'm not getting into politics, just saying what I actually heard people say to me in passing, that they refused to wear masks because "Donald Trump said we didn't have to".  Like any one of them had ever met Trump.

All of the numbers in the Republican states are fake, because the Democrats are making them up.  Same as in the election, right?  Just like this "Chinese shit" is fake, right Ted Nugent?  Everything you are saying here Sin echoes real life.  Not the bullshit that people read on the Parler or MyFreeSpeechPillow apps.  I just don't understand why a worldwide health pandemic has created such a political shitstorm.  It's not about politics, it's about getting past this.

Getting back to the original topic...

Buffett is one of several artists and festivals that are trying to get rid of the third party re-sellers.

That's why tickets were originally issued with the original buyer's name right on them. "If ain't your name on the ticket, you ain't getting in"

The underlying issue is not the people being turned away, but how these re-sellers got hold of the tickets in the first place.
