Found a few listings that might fit the bill that are against TODD Champion in Columbia, or presumed to be Todd given the dates which I believe precede The New Breed coming to JCP:

Thursday, July 17, 1986
Township Auditorium- Columbia, SC  7:30pm

Midnight Express (w/Jim Cornette & Bubba) vs. Dusty Rhodes & Magnum T.A.
National title: Tully Blanchard vs. Ronnie Garvin
Ivan Koloff vs. Todd Champion
Warlord vs. Gene Ligon
Terror vs. Don Kernodle
plus more

Thursday, July 31, 1986
Township Auditorium- Columbia, SC

Baby Doll & Magnum T.A. vs. Jim Cornette & Bobby Eaton
Indian Strap Match: Wahoo McDaniel vs. Steve Regal
Ronnie Garvin vs. Dennis Condrey
Warlord vs. Teijo Khan
Ivan Koloff vs. "Champion"
Brown vs. King

Todd Champion, while an undercard guy, was seen by JCP as someone with potential. He was never made to look bad when losing and got a big push when JCP ran Central States. After leaving Kansas City, JCP showed little interest in him and he faded away. As for Chris Champion, despite getting almost no TV time and definitely no push, he did hang around JCP throughout 1988 as a babyface singles wrestler after Sean Royal quit the wrestling business in late 1987.
