Completely untrue.  You have not watched too much footage of Harris.  You want an example of Harris fighting for yardage...watch Super Bowl XIII against the Cowboys.

These criticisms of Harris usually come from people who did not watch him consistently. 

The running out of bounds knack was put on him by Jim Brown.  The assertion is true, although that same style has now become commonplace in the NFL.  Not too many running backs have come down the pike who ran over guys like Jim Brown.

I would say history has shown Harris to be underrated more than overrated.

Average running backs back in that era did not rack up over 12,000 yeards rushing. He was without a doubt an integral part of a core of players who won 4 Super Bowls.
