2) The officer gave the perp no time to show he did not have the gun anymore and might have been trying to just put his hands up to surrender.

If the officer waits and the kid still had the gun, the officer is the one who is dead. But at the same time it's not wrong to say he should have waited another split second to see if the kid really still had the weapon.

Complete catch-22 here to me.

The public and some people here seem to think that cops should be waiting to see if they are killed before responding in any way and that any time someone is being taken into custody and they resist they should just be allowed to leave.

This thread was great till Rossi posted that AA ruined it.
