Here in Maryland, we are still averaging about 1,500 new COVID cases per day, 20 hospitalizations per day, and 20 deaths per day even though the most elderly and most medically frail should have already been vaccinated. All the political leaders want to talk about is the number of vaccines administered.

The governor has opened up vaccine eligibility to anyone over the age of 16 who wants to be vaccinated and has pretty much done away with the prioritization groups that were in effect previously. Many older Marylanders are complaining that they haven't been able to get a vaccine appointment and are now forced to compete with even more people for appointments. It is predicted that only about half of Marylanders 16 and over will elect to get the vaccine. There hasn't been any predictions about the vaccination rate for children but I suspect it will be much lower. There is no way herd immunity is going to be reached at this rate and there have been predictions that a large amount of vaccines will need to be disposed of due to lack of demand.
