 The suspect has been identified as an 18-year old who drove approximately 3 hours to the store and does not live in Buffalo. He shot 4 people in the parking lot (killing 3) before going inside. One of the victims is a retired police officer who was providing security at the supermarket. He shot the suspect several times but the body armor prevented any damage. The shooter then turned his rifle on the security guard and fatally shot him before continuing deeper into the store. 

CNN is already reporting this as a racially-charged shooting, although being CNN they seem to have no idea why they're saying this.  The store is located in a predominantly black neighborhood, for what that's worth, but it's unclear if the suspect even could've known that since he's not from Buffalo.

Police suspect there's some kind of online manifesto that might shed light on a motive, but they haven't found it yet.
