Indy ref JR Jackson talks smart marks.

Smart marks described unfortunately described as "cancer on the wrestling industry".

What? Huh? Pretty flippant with the word "cancer".

"James Zordani has left."     "geeky message board for smart marks".

We are all wrestling fans so why the insults?

So I joined the board and now by association I am geeky and a smart mark=cancer on the industry?????? Nothing at all wrong with being geeky as most pro wrestlers followed the sport at one time which makes THEM geeky also. "Smart marks" like to know about the sport they follow so they get sheets and do message boards so what is wrong with that and why is that equated with the absolutely lovely description of "cancer on the industry".

I really hate to talk about some indy ref who I don't know, never met and would probably like if I did meet him, but why is some indy ref calling out smart marks.  He's basically a "piss boy" to use the wrestling vernacular. Hey piss boy, nothing wrong with giving wrestlers rides and hanging around to do favors  unless you call other people names and look down on them.

I have always tried to stay out of stuff like this but not this time. Anyone that thinks they are better than anyone or indirectly insults any of my peers should possess a longer resume  to back it up.

Hey piss boy and indy ref , I'll match my wrestling background and level fitness with any of your group.

Hey guys, sorry to rant on your message board.

BTW, on the other hand the interviews are outstanding. I greatly appreciate the hard work that goes into them and their being made available.

Being called a "mark" never bothered me (because the correct term is "fan")

Unfortunately the interviewer is part of/most of the problem, never mind the Indy ref.

Prozac and Xanax are readily available should Mr. Cubeta find his way to the local drug counter.

Indy wrestlers seem to like to rip their fans like that.  Maybe all wrestlers do, but Mark Ash, and The World's Greatest Ref used to do this all the time at Gloryhole of Wrestling.

So its not okay to critizise somebody who does work for free (the interviews) but its okay to critizise somebody who does not do enough work for free (the compilation of the booking sheets) for somebody elses sake? Empathy isn't Cubetas strongpoint

I think Gary took Claw not providing results going forward too personally otherwise to comment like he has and then put it out on the net like that isn't a very smart thing to do.

I rarely visit Wrestlingclassics but -- did something similar happen there? (him getting upset, etc)

In his newsletter, Meltzer pointed out that Greg Gagne was full of it when Gagne claimed the AWA was close to a CBS deal in 1983, among other things.

Cubeta then got pissy when Meltzer wouldn't appear on 57talk to discuss it.

People pointed out that Meltzer had no obligation to do so.

Cubeta then got even pissier.

Wasn't much to see.

There's a monumental battle of the douches.  But why does Gary care?  So Gary interviews a carny and the carny says something utterly ridiculous (as they're prone to do) and Meltzer calls BS and Gary takes it personally?  Gagne said it, not Gary.  What the fuck does Gary care?  Does he think it's impossible that not every word spoken in one of his interviews could be the absolute truth?  Is he embarrassed that maybe he got worked?  Is Gary just using this as an excuse to try to get a Meltzer interview?  Is he just fucking retarded?

Classic.

"The guys (wrestlers) will talk to me for hours. Does anyone doubt that? No? OK"

"The (Clawmasters) and the Scott Teal's, there's just no way to straighten those guys out."

There are a lot of things I'd like to call Gary Cubeta after hearing such dreck, all having to do with the female anatomy...lower region.

In particular, a comparison of Mr. Cubeta to the smell of a portion of said female anatomy that has not been washed for ten days seems very appropriate.

But I won't go there since this is a family board.

Hopefully whomever reads this to Gary has had experience with the lower portion of the female anatomy at some point and can describe to him what he is being compared to. I'm sure Gary himself won't have a clue.

Well.....this section is kinda-sorta, anyways.

I'd like that bit in a place where Cubeta can have it read to him, should he choose to open it. Rubber Room access he ain't got, I don't think.

I'm just happy someone is doing this as a "service to the industry".

I would hate for future generations to miss the important views of "The hottest star on 57talk.com...." JR Jackson (well hottest star after our humble host of course).

I thank Gary for ensuring my grandchildren will know about the trials and tribulations of being an indy ref.

And today is a day of celebration, 175 Shoots, 825 still to go!

If this link linked to audio in which he called Jim out on the carpet, that ain't what's there now. Now it's just an inoffensive little "hooray for me, 175 interviews" missive.

We've never done anything to his account here. I haven't seen him here but it isn't hard to go into one's settings and make yourself invisible either. I would say he isn't doin that but his re-wording of things on his site and that type of thing lead me to believe he might still read here. Doesn't matter really.

As such, if true, i thought that Cuby wasn't able to access that area in the same vein. My bad for assuming.

JR Jackson "hater of smart marks" smart marks must be stopped" HUH? WHAT?Does this guy even know or care about the bylines by his name. (At least he got the "cancer" part out of his byline)

BTW, JR, a MARK of epic gargantuan proportions is someone who goes to a bar with wrestlers and without their permission gives an interview on Scott Hall drinking a lot, Gene Okerland (sp?) leaving the bar with a young girl, etc etc. Ric Flair probably does not mind reports of his leaving with girls but how about Gene? Is Gene married, was he married at the time etc. Would his current or past wife need to hear about this? Since these JR interviews are listened to by thousands coast to coast continent to continent etc etc, does he not think his stooging on his fellow wrestling stars is crossing a line? Nancy Sullivan or Nancy Benoit deep throats six Coronas in record time and someone who says he is "in the business" decides to tell everyone. So WHO IS THE REAL MARK here? I have been with Dave Meltzer on numerous occasions where someone has come up and offered personal type info which Dave has declined to listen to much less put in a public forum. So WHO IS THE MARK HERE??????

JR talks well, sounds like an amicable guy, and I assume he is a capable ref who enjoys the biz. On the other hand, how is he going to be hired on by an organization if he blabs publicly about what goes on in the bar or hotel rooms.

JR, "hater of smart maks", "smart marks must be stopped" is something that does not compute.

I like this little description from our humble host:

"Find out what the one time greats look like in todays world of wrestling ... Sabu, Snuka, Valentine and others ... We would like to do more "booking sheets" programs, but Zordani took a temper tantrum and quit to run his triple XXX rated mark board"

Can i get a link to this triple XXX  board? (9 X's ? sounds interesting to me)

This is my favorite line.  I'm sure wrestlers would just love to chit chat with Gary on the phone for hours about the biz just for fun.

Why is that something to brag about anyway?

"Last night I went to dinner and a play and nailed my wife.  What did you do Gary?"

"I talked to Mario Mancini on the phone for 4 hours."

Not that he needs Claw...
This headline on his update page is very telling:

"The great Bull Miller takes us back in time to the final match of Bobo Brazil ... Also includes a story about Iron Sheik setting up shop at an eatery and an update on Tommy Rich ... (opinions Bull Miller)"

Ah The "Great" Bull Miller!! ..... Bull Miller? :? Bill Miller maybe? No, Dr. Bill died years ago. Bull Curry?
Nope-he's dead too.

OK...who the blazes is Bull Miller and what made him great?!!!

I am one of those obnoxious smart marks (I suppose) and I have never heard of Bull Miller. ANYONE have a clue as to whom this guy is?

I sense a plethora of Indy refs, Guys who worked for 3 months and called it quits and Arena Rats to be guests in the coming months.

Pity-the stuff of Cubeta's sight IS gold...and probably more valuable in many ways than that junk that he and his boss are trying to sell on the main page.

This is the only wrestling board I hang out at so I don't know all the backstory involved but this guy seems like a complete self-absorbed, narcassitic, asshole.

Having said that, does his site allow for commentors?  If yes, could someone provide a link?  I would like to troll it for a while.

Bull Miller is Indy trash that "promotes" and "wrestles" (if you wanna call it that) in the Columbus, Ohio area. I put quotations around promotes because for the better part of the 90's and 2000's he continues to train guys, though he doesn't grasp how to work himself. His shows are atrocious filled with poorly trained and untrained talent, sometimes in t-shirts and shorts with kneepads and tennish shoes.

Friend of mine went down and worked for him once about 7 years ago not knowing what to expect. Needless to say he never went back. The name Bull Miller cracks a laugh or smile in any locker room in the Ohio area....Just an aging guy who's been around the Columbus, Ohio Indy scene for YEARS...That's right I said Columbus, he was never even good enough to work northern or southern Ohio, just right around the area he's from. I think that's why he promoted, because nobody else would book him.

Just looked this up on google. According to his myspace he's 47 and the champion of his Indy. What a shocker! http://www.myspace.com/wild_bull_miller

Now how the blue hell Cubeta found him or how he conned Gary into interviewing him is beyond me....It looks like Gary is running out of Legends to talk to when he's interviewing random 20 something year old referees and 50 year old never was'. Perhaps it's because they read the crazy shit he writes on his board and it scares them away. I'd have to imagine there are FANS out there who would know more than a couple of his recent guests....Does Gary really believe the hype these people like Bull Miller feed him? I'm guessing yes or he wouldn't waste his time on them.

What I'm liking about the updates are the way they are headed:

A Day in the Life of Vince McMahon (by Bob Evans)
Gordon Solie . . . the Greatest Wrestling Announcer (by Robert & Pamela Allyn)
Bobo Brazil and his final match in 1994 (by the "great" Bull Miller)

Who is next?

I mean nothing like interviewing someone with the sole purpose of talking about someone else.

Cubeta thinks 500-1500 fans is terrible attendance for an indy nowadays :D

Somebody needs to interview One Man Gang about the crowds he wrestled for when he was a rookie

The Bob Evans interview is a classic.

"Bob, what kind of food did they have?"

Re: Bull Miller

He posted on KM a few times. Said he knew Bill Miller but never made much sense.

If Gary does run low on interview subjects could any of the following have a bearing? Takes a shot at Scott Teal, Dave Meltzer, sheets (and I guess this means Wade Keller and Brian Alvarez also), Irv Muchnick, James Zordani, web sites, ("snakeshead of Wrestling Classics" and he is not mentioned there any longer, and this site "XXX, geeky") and of course "smart marks"(who does he think listens to his interviews). All of the above have friends and contacts in the business and may wonder why all the expanded negativity on the site and in interviews.

Interviews have been excellent and much appreciated.  Although I don't know many "smartmarks"will buy gold after reading the JR "hater of smart marks" headline.

I hope no prospective guests get scared off by for indy guys who say they are "in the business" and then skulk around bars so they can tell sex (Gene Okerlund) and drinking (Nancy Benoit) stories.

JR Jackson called last night at Midnight and he is hospital bed bound ... Attacked by a "rabid" smart mark fan at a recent show ? ... Find out soon as JR is released and returns to 57talk.com to stick it to them once again ...
I know this is a dying subject, however it's funny.

Someone needs to prepare a dictionary for Cubeta.  He obviously doesn't know what a "booking sheet" is.  "Smart mark" has been used to describe anyone he disagrees with.  I guess he's catering to "dumb marks", which is not a bad strategy when pushing the cash for gold scam.

Hope ref JR is OK and hope he did not damage his knees or back which might make him look like Bronco Lubich getting down to make a count.

Actually he is probably OK and went into the hospital following an injured wrestler so he could firsthand report on whatever procedure the wrestler needs and if the wrestler puts any moves on the female nursing staff.

But if a dumb mark listened to one of his brilliant interviews, wouldn't he then become a smart mark?  So it's therefore best if no one listens to his interviews.

I tend to think that a dumb mark listened to one of Cubeta's interviews, it would make him a dumber mark.  This seems to be what he's aiming for, since smart mark=bad in Cubeta's book.  The out-and-out retarded mark would be the ideal listener for Cubeta, and see eye-to-eye with him.

Eh, Cubeta has the gumption to do things that you people are capable to do, yet are too lazy or autistic to attempt.  Everybody bitches about his execution of interviews but I dont see any of you people being a pimple on his ass as far as pro wres interviews go.

Just sayin.

Fuck, man, I can't get phone numbers for obscure indy guys who once caught a glimpse of Vince McMahon.

As soon as I get those, and get hooked up with a sell-grandma's-gold-tooth-for-cash bizness, I'm gonna be a pimple on somebody's ass.

You just watch.

Dont bother.  Just keep bitching and moaning about how other people are doing the things you aren't interested in doing on wrestling internet message boards.

Description "pimple on his ass" is a bit earthy for my taste. How about, don't see any of you people being a  strand of hair on his back.

Here's the frustration for a guy my age - I'd love to see well done shoot interviews with a lot of these old time 'rassler guys.  I was hoping for well done interviews, because many of these guys were at the apex of their career when I was young..  Even after Cubeta showed that he may be a bit sketchy, I kept hoping for well done interviews.

I hope Bix, or somebody, picks up the ball Cubeta dropped and runs with it.

I think the sad fact of the matter that most of us don't want to admit is this: anyone willing to put in the time and effort to do this with the passion and accuracy that us hardcore fans require will most likely be batshit crazy to begin with because there's an underlying weirdness to the whole hobby.

It could be that, or it could be that Cubeta is an annoying self-promoter who got on the wrong side of a lot of people for various reasons.

If he hates "smart marks," who does he think is listening to this stuff?

Some of the stuff is good, some of it is OK. Lately some of it is just silly -- like interviewing a job guy wannabe who went to a WWE taping and then touting it as a "day in the life of Vince McMahon." WTF?
