Been in the mood for nostalgia as of late. Has it really been eighteen years?
Sometimes how well a turn goes over depends on how well it is executed. Michaels & Jannetty are on a losing streak prior to this match with some bickering and arguing in some matches. Even though the prior matches "telegraph" things to some degree as does Shawn showing up dressed in black this was pretty well done. A superkick (Sweet Chin Music) ends a very good tag team's time in wrestling and launches one of the greatest singles careers.

What did you think of all this when it went down?

That was the day I became a fan of Shawn Michaels. I thought he was good in the ring before that but I was a heel fan for the most part so I hated him. The whole you suck Pretty boy thing.

Pairing him with Sherri Martel at first was the right thing to do. Shawn really couldn't cut great promos yet but Sherri could. Shawn got better on the stick as the years progressed.

He's one of those guys I thought would be a star but not a superstar. The heel turn was the biggest break of his career. He took the ball and ran with it.

Pairing Shawn with Sherri was one of those things that just happened to "click". She'd run interference and even get in there and mix it up with the guys. Somewhere in this she ends up getting a mirror cracked over her head.

Shawn really debuts his heel look at the 1992 Royal Rumble and gives Flair a run for his money as far as bumping and selling. Heck, he was probably the biggest 'dark horse' in the running to win the title that night out of all the obvious choices like Flair, Hogan, Sid, Savage, UT, and Piper.

I love Heenan during the Barber Shop segment.

Plus, it made sense for anyone who also knew their AWA history in the Rockers/Rose-Sommers feud.  It cemented his turn to the dark side of the force.

This is my second fav heel turn after Barry Windham's turn on Luger to join the Horseman.

I'd always been a fan, and especially loved the Rockers as heels in Memphis.  So when Shawn got the green light here, I knew he'd shine.  I just didn't see him going as far as he did, but am glad he did.  He's by far, my fav of all time.

The only teased breakup that didn't culminate in anything was the Bundy-Studd friction.  Can anybody think of any other examples?

Sting and Luger as tag champs in WCW.  Luger always had both belts and ignored the crowd when Sting was high-fiving, unless Sting turned around and looked at him.  Never came to anything.

Owen Hart and Davey Boy Smith as well, reconciled before it went tits up by Bret Hart.

About 80% of angles in WCW and WWF in the 90's ended just like that.

Team 3-D just last month before they dropped the split to re-form ECW.

pretty sure the wwf teased breaking up hawk and animal during the substance abuse angle, but in the in the end it was scrapped and they came back as lod 2000 with sunny.

also in 96 or so, bubba ray and d-von had a shoving match on hardcore tv, but got back together.

I think that angle was scrapped due to the nWo invasion.

I feel like they did something with it, but in usual haphazard WCW fashion.  Jimmy Hart was involved managing Luger, I remember that much.
