Author Mark James has done it again. He has written another tremendous book on Memphis wrestling history. This volume deals with Arena Programs from 1972 to 1976. In addition to viewing all the great arena programs, you get a synopsis of each year from a number of wrestling luminaries such as Jerry Jarrett, Scott Bowden, Jimmy Valiant, Randy Hales and Jimmy Hart. The stories these men relate about Jerry Lawler, Ron Fuller, Robert Fuller, Lou Thesz, Dory Funk Jr, Harley Race, Sam Bass, Mongolian Stomper and Tommy Rich provide information you will not read anywhere else. You'll learn why Jerry Lawler was banished to Florida in 1975, how Tommy Rich got his start in the wrestling business, why Jerry Jarrett considered Robert Fuller a better wrestler than Ron Fuller and how Johnny Rubberman Walker became Mr Wrestling II. To order the book, go to http://stores.lulu.com/memphiswrestling Lulu.com accepts paypal. |

Can Volume I still be purchased? Volume II looks like a great read. I'll be sure to add it to my growing wrestling book collection. |

Thanks, I really enjoy it here. I do admit to lurking a lot. I really enjoy reading the posts. Claw turned me on to this place a while back and I've been hooked ever since. I only hit 3-5 wrestling forums daily, and this is always one of them! mj99 |

Wanted to let everyone know I was interviewed about the book on an internet radio show last week (RRO website). Jimmy Valiant was kind enough to go on there with me (and Scott Bowden called in as well.) If you're interested in hearing it, you can go here to hear the replay: http://rasslinriotnews.blogspot.com/2008/05/shooting-shiznit-is-ready_29.html thx, mj99 Last edited on Tue Jun 3rd, 2008 07:03 pm by mj99 |

How does the paperback hold up against the hardcover? |

If you're wanting a book for your bookshelf, I highly recommend the hard cover, it looks amazing. If you're like I am, and always looking at your books, I'd recommend the softcover. Both books have the excact same covers (words & images), just one is soft and the other is hard. Both are 8.5x11 in size. I bought my soft cover to Vol 1 a year ago and still go thru it weekly as a reference tool, (for some online columns I write). It is still in excellent condition. The publisher/printer, (lulu.com) , is second to none. They use quality paper for the interior as well as the soft cover. Let me know if this doesn't anwswer your question, mj99 |

I received mine this past Thursday. Finally got to it over the weekend. What a great job by Mark. Just some fantastic history. Shipping couldn't have been faster (received maybe less than a week after ordering) with A+ packaging. You don't even half to be a Memphis fan to enjoy this ~ as a fan of oldtime wrestling it was great to see the programs where the NWA Champions like Jack Brisco came to town. I highly recommend this for everyone. |

Why do there have to be 2 Memphis related books coming out around the same time (this and Downtown Bruno's)? Oh well, I guess that's why credit cards were invented... |

I didn't know Bruno was putting his out til I got the email last week, sorry, (lol). I'm warning you now so you can save your pennies, another Volume will be out June 2009 (100% going to happen). Also, if I can figure out how to squeeze a few more hours out of a day, you guys may even get one (MWH V3) out for Xmas 2008 as well (right now that project is 50-50). There's even 2 side projects that won't be under the MWH banner that "may" see the light of day this year. MJ |
